    Hello,
i'm trying to fix my liteon 5001.
It has a serious problem during recording: it stops before disc is full (even at half of the entire disc duration) and i get a "write fail" error.
I tried the last firmware and the same firmware version hacked to rremove macrovision protection and the problem still occurs.
Do you think it's a cooling problem ?
Do you think it's a good idea to replace the internal drive unit? Which model ?
    Thanks!

Yes it is a cooling problem! Take the lid off then try recording again. I am assuming that it has no fan on the back. I have 5001 and 5005. The 5005 has fan on back and heatsink on chip, 5001 has no fan or heatsink.

I've read folks swapping out the 5005 burners with a Liteon SOHW-1693 and it only required a few mods to get it to fit inside. I haven't seen it done and have no idea how to do it...YET. 5005's have a bad history for dying so I'll likely try it at some point.:D
