Hello all. I have just signed up for DirecTv satellite service and am very satisfied. Problem! I am looking to buy a Pioneer DVR with hard drive to record tv shows I miss during the day while at work and watch them later when I get home, then burn to dvd the ones I want to keep. Pausing live tv isn't a big deal for me. I am aware of a fee charged by DirecTv of 12.95 per month using Tivo. I need a DVR with Hard Drive that includes an Electronic Program Guide for satellite which doesn't require an extra monthly subscription fee. I believe in paying for whatever service I get, but I shouldn't have to pay a fee to record any satellite programs I already pay for to watch. does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. bigredbus.
I just got a Pioneer DVR-531H-s recorder with a 80 GB hard drive. I don't have satellite but the buyers guide does have detailed instuctions on how to hook it up. But it does mention that it does not supports satellite tv guides or listings. maybe a differant model does, you could try contacting Pioneer and asking them if a newer model does or will in the future support satellite.
Thanks for your response. I have just found a Toshiba DVR with 160G hard drive that includes free basic TiVo. If this allows me to program the DVR to record programs while I'm away from home without charge then I will probably buy it. I do like Pioneer because their products are very good quality. Personally I think its bizarre that not all DVR's do not have this capability for satellite subscribers. Thanks again for your response. bigredbus@usdatanet.net
