i thought i finally found the best thing to copy dvds (dvd shrink with nero) but my nero is screwing up when it burns... i wanted to post a log like ive seen everyone else do but it wont give me anymore than burn process failed... the burning starts out saying about 6 and a half minutes remaining...and the two places where it has buffer levels (i dont know if it is two different levels or not...) keep changing erratically... when the remaining time gets to 0:00:00 it just keeps going...then when it gets to about 60% completion the buffer levels finnally go to 100% but for only about 45 seconds then the burn fails... it has happened 3 times in a row and hasnt worked yet... im using a BRAND new computer and sony DVD-Rs so i dont know if it has anything to do with either of those two... is there some kind of driver or something i am missing or a setting i need to change? im sorta good with computers... i can normally figure my problems out but im new to the DVD burner thing..ive never had one...thanks for the help... o yea i forgot to mention...im trying to write the ifo, bup, vob files in the VIDEO_TS folder with nero... the dvd shrink rips fine...

cold be just the DMA settings, however it would be better to post LAST section of Nero log to find any other settings that need looking at. it's in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar

    - way old, latest is 6.6.0.16

    - not yet sure if this firmware is out of date or not

    - yup, Nero is too old to recognise your burner correctly

    - get DMA back ON via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - you burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - splat!

    - try 4x

you're missing the last few lines of logfile, but this is a good start

theres the last lines... sorry... i did the dma stuff and the target size to 4300... but the nero came installed on my computer when i bought it and im not sure how to update it with not having the cd/serial number and everything... any ideas without having to pay for it? and how would i figure out wat to do with the firmware?

The last few lines of log look fine. That's a good question about the serial number. What I mean is you shouldn't need to worry about entering the serial number just to update. When I've uninstalled nero before, Nero has printed the serial number on screen and prompts you to write it down just in case. However I'm not near a pc at the moment to check how you verify your own serial number. I'm on a handheld which is a bit crap for using on the internet. Follow the other suggestions for now, leaving nero alone, and as I say the firmware might be fine. What you can do after fixing the other stuff is to do a 'simulation' burn which asks for a blank disk and just goes thru the motions of burning, thus testing out your fixes. See how you go with that for now..

it burned right... then i tried it directly burning through dvd shrink instead of putting the files on and everything and it worked fine... and its gotten faster with each movie... which i hope will keep up... im going to hold off on downloading a new nero since everything is working now how it is... when i had icopydvds2 there was intervideo(not sure if thats the name) player that was automatically installed when u put in some movies and messed up the program... is there anything like that player thing that will mess up dvd shrink? because i know it was from blade trinity and im hesitant to copy it now so it wont mess everything up... thanks for ur help again!
