I recommend the chip method and it's stable. As for price of the process, the softmod method would be yourbest bet. Do you plan on making your hard drive larger?
200GB is a good size but no, you don't have to upgrade the hdd. If you are doing a softmod you will have to mod the factory hard drive anyway.

By not getting a larger hard drive you obviously don't have the space to save media/games as you would if you did. But there are other features you'll benefit from.
To do the mod, you will need... - Either the original disc for Splinter Cell, 007 AGENT Under Fire or MechAssault (NO Platinum editions will work) - The game save exploit for the game you of the 3 you choose to use. - A Microsoft memory card
