Looks like you're up to date with Nero, plus all your DMA is on.

Free up more memory if you can by going to msconfig and ctrl+alt+delete and disable any running program that's not neccessary to run while backing up. (be very careful though)

I'm not sure here... What are you burning? With 56MB you don't need a blank dvd to burn it - it's just a waste of dvds, you need a cd-r to burn it only.

Ritek seems like a decent media, however, I'm not quite too familiar with its media. So, hopefully someone will know this better than I.

i can't see anything over and above what alkohol has pointed out. maybe try another media. however 256mb is barely sufficient for Windows XP, never mind DVD work on top of that. you should try to buy more memory..

    @ yellowjak hi :)
i bow to the knowledge of alkohol and creaky.
could you put your disc through dvd identifier and let me have a look at the result
there appear's to be some suspect Ritek floating about
they should ID as G05 no space between the G and the O5 ie G-05
all mine ID as Ritek Corp....RITEKG05 made in taiwan
all the post's that have had problems with Ritek have had the space.

    Gurnard the Ritek God :)
ps my previous reply wasn't as clear as it should have been. i wasn't implying Ritek were crap, just meant try other media to see if something else works better with the burner.

i'll have to look out for G-05 in any Ritek-related posts too, cheers for the info

    @ creaky hi :)
didn't think that for a moment.
as you say it's a wise move to try a different media. there's always the possibility of a burner miss match.
    strange about the - though
