Hi, I have a Toshiba SD-R5272 DVD Burner. Over like a span of 10 months, I have had no problem burning DVDs. However, now when I am burning with the same batch of DVD-Rs that worked perfectly, I get DVDs that won't even play in my computer or the DVD players. I am beginning to think that my drive is starting to mess up. Should I change drives? Any help would be appreciated.
Try a new batch of DVDs before buying a new drive. It is possible that part of the batch was ok but the other part isnt. Also make sure the programs you are using are still working correctly and all the settings are ok.
My original combination was DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink if necessary, then Nero 6 OEM. Now I have tried DVDFab Decrypter, DVD Shrink if necessary, then Nero 6 OEM. If Nero 6 doesn't work, I go to DVDCopy 2 Gold. Got any good combinations you would like to share?
L3373LF , Sounds like your problem is the blank media you are using. D/L DVDinfoPro ( free) and see who the real manuf of the disks are. Suggest you use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden disks and see if there are any problems. You can also D/L DVDinfoPro (free) and run a crc test on the burned media to see if there are errors on the disks. The old method to burn DVDs was DVDDecrypter to rip, Shrink to compress and either DVDDecrypter to burn( iso mode) or Nero. That still works to this day for most people. DVDFab Decrypter stepped up to the plate when DVDDecrypter decided to call it quits and it is a good ripper. If you want great copies then use DVDrebuilder and CCE
Hmmm, when I put in a blank DVD, DVDInfoPro can read it but when I stick in a DVD that I burned, it says No Media Present. My DVD Type is TTG02. Should I try updating my Nero, though it has worked with more recent DVDs than the one I am trying to burn now.

I had a very smiliar problem with my Sony DRU-710A, as far as I can tell. When I got it, it was producing DVDs with no problems, but after a while, new DVDs I would make would skip on my computer and set-top DVD player. I thought it was a problem with the original DVDs I used (i.e. scratches, etc.). Then suddenly, my burner wouldn't read anything. Not a CD, blank CD, DVD, blank DVD, nothing. The dive still functioned (i.e. tray opened, lights worked) but it wouldn't read a disc. I tried different discs and different software, but nothing fixed the problem so I went out and bought a new burner. Sorry, I can't be of much help as far as finding a solution, but your problem seems similar to mine and I'd thought I'd let you know what I ended up doing.
That is an outdated version, the latest version is 6.6.0.16 Your dvd writer's new firmware is 1031. Go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1782 - download it, save it to a folder and run it with no cd/dvd inside your burner. If your not comfortable with it, then just ignore about updating its firmware. However, sometimes "updating" your dvd writer's firmware may solve some of the issues you're having now. The choice is yours. If you can, free up more memory when you're backing up movies. Go to either "msconfig" or "ctrl+alt+delete" and "disable" any running programs that it's "not neccessary", this may increase your cpu memory. (NOTE: be very careful though) Seriously, I have no idea what you're trying to burn/back up here...?? I believe you're using a TDK DVD-R blank. I'm not quite familiar with TDK that much, thus I can't really comment on them that it's genuine TDK or not. However, I highly recommend you to get any of the Yuden (including Fuji & Sony), Maxell and Verbatim and try to do your back up with no higher than 4X.
