Ok guys, now this is the most "welcome" forum i could think of.The problem is like this:i have a dvd unit(cant find out the manufacturer for now E-IDE DVD ROM DVD 8212 ) and recently it...died.what do i mean it died??simply it is recognized and shown s a unit, it actually tells me when a dvd is inside, yet i cant read anything...also, my computer wont boot from the dvd, although it is specified in bios...i am outa ideas...i tried it all, even disabled dma, nothing...how can i tell if my dvd unit still works??i mean, i did absolutely NOTHING to it, no cables switched no NOTHING!so, hope u guys can solve my problem...awayting your answers soon.NoLimitz.
try a cd/dvd disk cleaner? try the drive in another computer if not a laptop? replace the ide cable or reseat the ide cable to drive & motherboard.
ddp, i took my dvdrom out of my computer and opened it, and found out the answer : the lens was melted.dont know how it happened but it did .Now any sugestion on how to get that fixed??I mean, i think in the end ill turn to a specialist or a company, but again, i have some broken cdroms with good lens, do they match(a cd lens on a dvd...).my father said no .Anyways, if they do, will i be able to read dvds again??10x anyways for the first answer...No Limitz.
but you are willing to take to a specialist or a company!!! the cdrom lens MIGHT work but than MIGHT not work.
ddp well, is it a difference???i mean, the lens should be the same excentricity because the focusing and distance 2 dvd are exactly the same...and anyways, the only result if it doesn't work is data loss.so, i guess i'll just borrow a dvdrom from a friend so i can install suse 9.3 .cya allz.10x for your answers.
