Can't read/ Can't write!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I retired another thread that was a waste of everyone's time. It concerned an error message I received when trying to burn a DVD.
Now I find that not only do I have a read/write problem with my DVD burner, but I also have the same problem with my CD-Burner. Neither ROM can read any type of medium put in. Both the CD and DVD Rom's were fine for the last six weeks doing everything I asked of them. Now, neither will burn or read! Windows (XP Pro) sees both drives, and they are in the BIOS also. If I try to access either, I get an error message that says, "drive is empty" or media is not formatted or corupt". I surely could use a few suggestions. I have already tried 4 different blanks in each machine, have tried to play audio and data CD's in the CD, and 6 different full movies in the DVD with no change of result. I have uninstalled the ROMS, and let Windows reinstall them at startup. Nothing! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
