Is there a site where I can order both of these products from? And not have to order from 2 seperate places.

My advice is dont go with the cheap method or the one that seems to be the fastest (its like buying a infomercial product they never work as well as they promise...) take the time to find someone around you who will install a magic 3.1 or mess... you will be better off in the long run

If you wait until the new Swap Magic Discs are released, you should have no problems as they are adding in new features.

get someone to do it who will guarantee their work
www.modchip.ca
125$ canadian + mocd chip cost as oppose to the flip top which is about 100 in total after taxes and apparently you have to update boot discs which are 40 cnd
but it dosent matter what you choose just thought I would play devils advocate

I agree with c7015 mod chip is the better way and worth the extra initial money
What are YOU going to do !

I can honestly say I would. You have to remember that becuase you might have had/heard problems, doesn't mean someone else will. Especially if Swap Magic can fix their very little problems (I am hoping they will work out a REAL boot disc with no chip needed).
I use a Neo 2.2b Pro and don't mind having to swap. Big deal, I have an extra step or 2. It works and it works perfect for me (especially for the price!). I am a little against paying an additional $100+ dollars for something that should be free (chip code I mean).
Another thing to remember is people's situations are different. Maybe they can't afford an additional $100+ dollars or more for the initial investment, maybe they don't have the resources to solder the chip let alone take the chance to send it out and probably lose it.
That is what everyone forgets, people are quick to say "Don't get that chip it's this or that" or "You're going to hate it becuase when I had it...." when no one should say anything derogatory (sp) about what is better or not. It's all about preference and situation. So I try to give the best scenario for ALL options (if I can).
If someone asks "I am really thinking about a certain chip" they ask for a reason, not becuase they want to hear someone say it's not good becuase of a PREFERENCE that has nothing to do with the question.
Maybe I am just a little more open minded to peoples situations, especially having to work hard for something i.e. not being "GIVEN" everything like a brat or spoiled person might have. Or maybe a mother with a few children that needs an inexpensive alternative becuase clothing or food take presidence (sp) over a video game BUT she still wants to do what she can for her family's happiness etc.
I don't mean to ramble but, it really bothers me when people forget this is a forum (or other places like it) to help answer the question at hand NOT reply with a preference that totally misses the point.

I see what you are saying and it is a good point, however its not just my preference that is driving the decisson it is logic if you look at my posts when people ask what chip to buy I recomend the a messiha even though I have a magic 3.1 which is my preference but messhia is a better chip and has less boot problem so aside from my preference I recomend something that I think people will an easyer time with. The reason I dont like the flip top idea is that it seems like as the saying goes "if it seems to good to be true that it probably is" allong the same lines this seems good but being scheptical of all things that are a quick fix I dont think it will be effective over the long run and if you have to update the swap disc it will cost you more than a chip in the end. As for the issue of Loosing it in the mail that wont happen if you ship it insured and when you do that you can track it and if it is lost they pay for it ($18 for cross canada insured shipping of a ps2)
But again make your own choice but make sure that it will last for the money you invest

I have a ps2 v7 and have not put any mod chips in it whatsoever except a flip top cover. All I can say it works like a charm.
1. You make an image of your game with recordnow max.
2. Burn the image to a DVD-R with recordnow max.
3. Place the Swap Magic in the ps2 and wait for the "insert disc" screen. Take out the Swap Magic disc
4. Put your backup in and play.
Works every time. No mod chips no nothing.
here are a few advantages of having a flip top lid over a modchip.
1) the installation is alot simpler, the odds that you'll fry your ps2 are much much lower
2) when you try to play games online with a modchip, sony will be able to detect it and kick you off. (as seen in the everquest beta)
3) sony implimented anti-mod protection in some of the PS1 games (gameday & spyro for example), you had to boot up with a gameshark and enter codes to bypass it (swapping!), or SPEND MONEY and go out and buy a "stealthier" modchip.. once again, raising your chances of frying your motherboard..
now here are a few advantages of having a modchip over a fliptop lid.
1) no swapping
2) ability to play "ripped" games, which is gay as hell because they either strip out or downsample movies & audio.
HMMM. thats about it, and the advantages arent even that great.
swapping with a fliptop lid & swap magic discs is the EASIEST way to swap.. you dont have to use the knife/cog trick on it and potentially ruin your ps2 tray, and almost permanently disfigure your ps2.

To c7015, The first part of my reply was to your question of
"but dex can you honestly say that you think they would be better off with the flip top method"
The rest of the rambling was in general to everyone. Not directed specifically to you.
About the Messiah being a better chip, I still think they are all the same if installed properly and the user knows how they work. I have heard many a horror story about EVERY chip (which ends up being either, bad chip (code), bad install, or improper use)
The term "if it seems to good to be true that it probably is" does not apply here becuase it has been tested/proven and people do like them (yes there is minor probelms but, all new developements have them just like the Messiah, Neo 4, etc).
About the Swap Magic cuasing more cost in the long run, I think it is the most safe way (for non-solderers) to mod a PS2. Which makes it an invaluable deal.

To dexlab: "About the Swap Magic cuasing more cost in the long run"
How is it causing more cost? Please explain.
$30 fliptop
$20 Swap Magic
on the other hand
Mod Chip
- prices vary from 40 or so to 90 (magic 3.6)
- Installation (varies)
- if you do it yourself (varies- those skillful will have no problems..some do though as we see on this board..most of the questions are HELPP with my mod. You can also take it to a pro shop to have it done but cost more $$$. Thirdly Sony will be putting anti-mod protection on future games meaning to have to buy a better mod chip, right? More $$$)
All I have to do is buy the next version of Swap Magic. Not to mention you have more of a chance to have a problem with a modded ps2 in the future rather than a flip top.
How could you say "Which makes it an invaluable deal."

I don't see that much wrong with the flip top if you don't mind the hassle of changing disk.
I guess there is more exposure to dust for the laser assembly. Makes the lens easy to clean but dust also gets under the cap. You probably need to be very very careful not to damage your lens when you swap disk.
If you get a new game that won't work with the swap you have to wait until a new swap disk is released. (That would be a no vote for me but if you have the patience to wait and hope they fix it......)
The Messiah 2 and Magic 3.1 shouldn't be a problem with online detection since they stop sending the boot code and shut down after a few seconds.
I don't agree with the statement that the mod chips will mess your PS2 up in the long run.
If you do the mod correctly or get it done it's just not a problem.
Either method you are running backups and the laser life is going to be equal.

Does anyone know any other shop that sells flipflop covers and the swap magic discs. I have a ps2 v7 but do not want to use my credit card. And about online games not working with mod-chips, has anyone tried the magic 3.1 and messiah with copied games playing online?
