xp home won't give good ip add using dhcp

i'm helping a friend with his gateway running xp home. i can not gat a good ip address and subnet mask using dhcp. this computer was once connected to a school network. i have reinstalled xp tried a manual ip address install a new nic and the same address keeps coming up. please help.

 

do a google search for "winsockipfix" try using that and see if that solves your problem.
