    this is in the wrong Forum, i've requested this thread be moved to Nero forum, have answered what i can see in the logfile..

    - i can't get a single bit of info on this drive, never mind firmware updates, so cannot determine if the burner's firmware is too old. (firmware is what teaches your drive about media/newer media/burn speeds)..

    - even though DMA settings look fine (ie they're ON), there's no reference to the atapi drivers in the 'existing drivers' section. Reset the DMA settings via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm and this will hopefully sort this out..

    - you're burning to the outer edge of the discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences, thus avoiding the outer edge of discs and not sacrificing too much space. I do this permanently, even on top notch discs such as Verbatim's

    - even though i'm unsure about the firmware revision, here we can see the firmware is correctly identifying the discs..

    - try changing the target size (you'll have to re-Shrink that movie to test this fully), reset the DMA settings, lower burn speed to 4x, then do a 'simulation' burn only, this will request a blank disc but won't write to it, it just goes thru the motions. See how that goes and report back; there's nothing else wrong in the logfile that i can see..

    I have the same Tsstcorp recorder, and same firmare and same problem
    +r DVD will not burn - using Sonic Record Now
    -r DVD burn OK, but not at 8x but 4x speed
    Frustrating Burner
    Tsstcorp is -> Samsung
    L532 is on the web site but nothing about L532M
    No spec on Samsung website about this model burner
    A firmware is needed to fix the issues with this burner
    No firmware available to the masses yet!!!
    SAMSUNG pull the lead out as fix this NOW!!!!!

    Drives do get left behind sometimes regards firmware. Even my sony hasn't had new firmware out for what seems like a helluva long time

    some people do get good results with 8x (i'm not one of them!, and i have a decent enough setup to sustain 8x burning, and i only use top notch media. but i've not got good results with 8x). now we get a lot of people posting problems as to why that can't do 16x. it's like cd burning but worse, ie the max is 48x or 52x but it doesn't mean we're supposed to go that fast.

    i burn like a mad thing and 15mins for 4x is no problem for me.

    as to firmware, normally you look on the manufacturer's site but i had np joy with this drive, on any sites
