I've went through 5 dvd's now and need some help if I can.... Let me start by saying I've tried 2 other DVD burning software and get smooth playback, its only in Express, but I want Express to be used because of the menu's etc. Its not in the conversion or DVDmedia, its only doing this on a stand alone DVD player when Nero is used to burn. Small, short (1/4 second - 1/2 second) little stutters, doesn't matter what chapter, throughout the playback on a standalone DVD player. Played back VOB's on WinDVD - playback is smooth/perfect, so no issue there. .VOB files used. 4x burn speed. Fresh reboot, Memorex DVD+R (8x) media,NEC 16X DVDRW ND-3540A, P4 3.0 gig, 1 gig PC3200 ram. Very limited background proccesses running. Can anyone give me any advice what might be causing this? Thank you for the help or input folks.
- that'll be one of the culprits.... post LAST section of your Nero log, which is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar
Creaky, thank you buddy. Thanks for the heads up on the Memorex. BUT even know I selected 4x in Express, the log shows 8x. I think a wrong click of the mouse and Nero didn't take the 4x setting. Just tried to see if it would stay, now it stays at 4x so I'll give it another try at 4x and see what happens. (all other burns have been at 8x). -- Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 6:35:34 PM Nero API version: 6.6.0.13 Using interface version: 6.6.0.8 Installed in: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\ Application: ahead\NeroVision Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 13c Recorder: <_NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A> Version: 1.01 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.13 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6B120P0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y120P0 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : GENERIC 0000000 atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A D: CDRom0 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 1022MB (1047548kB) Free physical memory: 375MB (384696kB) Memory in use : 63 Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 26.8.2005 NeroAPI 9:38:55 AM #1 Phase 111 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files sorted 9:38:55 AM #2 SCSI -1065 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1182 SCSI Exec, HA 1, TA 0, LUN 0, buffer 0x036C5600 Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR) HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK) TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND) Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST) Sense Code: 0x20 Sense Qual: 0x00 CDB Data: 0xFA 0x10 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x06 0x00 0x00 0x00 Sense Data: 0x70 0x00 0x05 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0A 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x20 0x00 9:38:55 AM #3 SCSI -1065 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1182 SCSI Exec, HA 1, TA 0, LUN 0, buffer 0x036C5600 Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR) HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK) TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND) Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST) Sense Code: 0x20 Sense Qual: 0x00 CDB Data: 0xFA 0x10 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x06 0x00 0x00 0x00 Sense Data: 0x70 0x00 0x05 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0A 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x20 0x00 9:38:55 AM #4 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 9:38:55 AM #5 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A running 9:38:55 AM #6 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3293 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 9:38:55 AM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3293 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 9:38:55 AM #8 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3167 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 9:38:55 AM #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 260 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 2170895 (482:25.20, 4240MB) 9:38:55 AM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 272 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 9:38:55 AM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2339 Recorder: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A, Media type: DVD+R 9:38:55 AM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 438 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 9:38:55 AM #13 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 830 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 2170896 (2170896) = #2170896/482:25.21 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 2170896 blocks [_NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A] -------------------------------------------------------------- 9:38:55 AM #14 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1043 Prepare recorder [_NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; - firmware's up to date, i know this is NEC's newest drive (well it should still be, i know they bring out a new drive every other day) - firmware doesn't yet recognise this disc properly. here's an example of what it should look like - - are you inserting the blank disc BEFORE starting the burn ?. - uninstall Roxio as Roxio and Nero don't always play well together
The 8x speed in the log I think was from me setting it to 4x, then hitting 'back' to see something. When you go 'next' the setting is set back to default. Very interesting on the DVD+ / -R. Well there goes a stack of 25 down the toilet And looking at the DVD standalone media specs, DVD+R isn't listed, just DVD-R. I burned at 4x earlier, no luck. Ok, help me here: I need DVD-R correct? I'm heading to buy so help me out If I want to buy dual-layer , what do I need? If I want to by single layer, re-writeable what do I need? Thanks for your help Creaky!
I haven't used any dual layer media yet, but as to single layer, as per my signature, I wholeheartedly recommend verbatim datalifeplus. Or ty (taiyo yuden) but with ty you have to be sure you don't get fakes. See the first couple pages of afterdawn's dvd media forum for more info on ty if you wanted those
Wait a second. Regarding the DVD(+)R and this problem I'm having. I dont have any issues with the +R playing on my DVD player when using something else other then Nero. When using anything for burning the DVD: Plays in my 3 different DVD players here. Plays fine in WinDVD. Burns fine with no errors or problems and plays on the DVD players fine (when burning with Roxio or WinAVI) So it dont sound like the +R problem. Its ONLY happening when using Express. I'll uninstall Roxio and see what happens, it doesn't sound like a media issue.
Can anyone help me on my problem? I Uninstalled Roxio as per Creaky- Still stuttering. Even burned at 2X, STILL stutters. Stutters on all 3 DVD players here in my house. Funny, WinAVI and Roxio play f'n perfectly, with the exact same source of VOB's. If I dont hear from someone, I'm getting my money back, this is just bs. This is a brand new install of XP, correct hardware, everythings up to date and perfect - but NERO is the only piece of burning software that dont f'n work and gives stuttery playback. This is turning out to be a massive waste of money.
@ChampCar, Creaky is the most experienced member here at AD.com on Nero and media, so I suggest you be patience and hopefully he'll solve your issue in due time. Just out of curiosity, what kind of blank media are you using to do your back up? The reason I said that is because I didn't see any media code on your log, but you did mentioned on your first post that it's a Memorex blank right? Seriously, Memeorex is no good and it won't do any good to your dvd burner, dvd player and it(Memorex) won't last long as well. This is an old version, you might want to update for its latest version (6.6.0.16). It's ok, but try to free up more memory if you can. The more memory you have the better the burning process will perform. What other programs do you have running while you're burning i.e. surfing the net, anti-virus program, etc.? I recommend you not to touch the computer once you're in the process of ripping and burning.
We've solved this one I think. Memorex media proves itself once again to be be subpar and a waste of money. The +r discs you have are not fully recognised by your burner so you cannot expect reliable or consistent results with them - your burner is doing the best it can considering its firmware has insufficient knowledge with which to correctly burn these discs. Download dvd identifier (free) to give us full info re those +r discs. I've already given you suggestions for media that is decent. I myself have burnt approx 1500 verbatim discs using nero. See 2nd link in my signature re reasons not to waste hard earned money on trash media such as some of the memorex out there...
I fullr appreciate your guys' thorough replys, very informative. I appologise if I came accrossed as sounding I wasn't taking your word Creaky. Logicly, if Neroexpress is the only program giving me problems, I kinda ruled out the media. But you make a great point as does Alkohol, this Memoroex DVD+R 8x media maybe the problem. Is there any specific problems with Express and this specific media? I'll go buy some Verbatim media and give that a try. Also, I'll d/l the Nero update to get that api current. Will give both those a try and give it another go, I'll stay in touch. Thank you again for all your guys' help, much appreciated
No apologies necessary, we just spend most nights seeing memorex/cmc/unheard of bad media causing endless bother to people and endeavour to point people in the direction of good media. Make sure to let us know how the verbatim go. Unfortunately with dvd media/burning, a few good burns doesn't guarantee continued success, hence the need to tweak settings, then the icing on the cake is media - media is one of the most important aspects..
PISSED Uninstalled Roxio. D/L and installed NeroReloaded update (updated to 6.6.0.16). Looked ALL over friggin town for Verbatim DVD-R, found a measily 5 pack after going to 6 stores. Rebooted PC Threw my .VOB's in NeroExpress and burned at 4x. Work? HELL NO. Same thing, it plays just fine for 10 seconds and then blip, small 1/4 - 1/2 second jerks or pauses every 7 seconds or so. Damn this is frustrating! And remember - this is a specific NeroExpress issue, Roxio worked fine so did WinAVI. Creaky - anyone, now what?!
OK, what the heck is going on here with the burn speed. I specificly set it for 4x, went back to double check, yup, 4x. Then looked again, its set at 4x. RIGHT after, I burn, but the log is showing 12x burn speed?! Is this the problem here that I'm having? Actually after looking at all the logs, there isn't a single 4x burn speed in it! At the last menu in Express, I select the drive speed, then to see if it took, I roll my mouse over the options, yup, I see 4x as the speed setting - then burn. 'Fraid its time for another section let's have the output from nero's info-tool. it's very long but very detailed and will hopefully turn up some conflict or whatevers causing the problem.. I'm asking for nero stuff because unlike most other programs they give a wealth of info. In fact even if you didn't use nero at all I would have suggested you download info-tool for that very reason. Its very rare that we don't solve a problem round here so am sure the answers in there somewhere..
Our replies crossed along the way. You've still got roxio installed, can see it there at very bottom of logfile. Uninstall it for now. Plus I don't know why your nec burner is trying to booktype a -r disc, for one you can't booktype -r discs, for two as far as I'm aware the nec drive doesn't support booktyping (otherwise known as bitsetting). That's very odd about the burn speed, I thought the verbatim you quoted were the same as most of mine, ie 8x....
Roxio is totaly uninstalled! Perhaps I didn't reboot after the uninstall yesterday, I may have got crossed up with a different reboot *before* uninstalling Roxio, I'll do that now, maybe the driver will set itself then. I bought Verbatim DVD-R (up to 8x) 120minute/4.7gig Gonna reboot then run info tool, will post the log. After that time, gonna try VisionExpress again, maybe the driver conflict (roxio) will be resolved.
From info, real quick. Yup, Roxio (sonic solutions) is still the driver, going to reboot and look again- Driver : Cdralw2k Description : CDRAL for Windows 2000 Kernel Driver Version : 7.5.0.47 Company : Sonic Solutions
Just rebooted, I see Sonic is still there! Update: After googling a bit, I see many people are having a hard time getting rid of this Roxio driver. There is a solution below, it will then render the DVD unusable I'm sure, so my question is, how do I get the appropriate drivers on? Do I need to uninstall Nero and re-install? And is this recomended? . . . "-or you may be able to remove the pieces easily with the Roxizap uninstaller. If you're not running other Roxio programs such as GoBack (because they'll be uninstalled too) you will find the Roxizap uninstaller much quicker than a clean uninstall, and it's much easier to use. Roxizap is at- http://softwareupdates.roxio.com/gm/support/tools/roxizap.exe"
