Does a Cd-rw drive read the same way as a cd-rom?

    This probably a dumb question, but a am a computer novice. If I get rid of my old CD-ROM drive, and get a CD-RW, will I need a new CD-ROM to play my music and games like I always did? Or will the CD-RW cover it?

    it works exactly the same except now you will be able to burn cd's..yay

    But you'd better keep a CD ROM, it's faster than a burner, and you'll preserve the lifetime of your burner (usually short) using it just to burn.

    On the other hand, burners are typically better readers than (cheap) CD-ROMs. But it is true that burners tend to have shorter average lifetime (according to some old manufacturer information)
