Hello, I have a sony Dru-710a. I have been making backup's for about 6 months now. Now when I try to decrypt a dvd my drive won't read the disc. It is like there is no dvd even in the drive.
    Any suggestions?

Hello, Sometimes my computer will see the drive and other times it will not. If I restart my computer it usually helps.
Its kinda weird sometimes it reads the drive as a cd-rom and not a Dvd-rw drive.
I am going to try to upgrade the firmware now. I don't have a internet connection at the moment, I am using a friends computer.
So when I get a chance I will let you know how it went.
    Thanks for the replys.

Hi, The firmware didn't work. It was already the latest verson byx4.
The drive ALWAYS reads cd-r's just not dvd's.
Im not sure what to do now?
    Thanks for all who reply.

is the drive set as slave, cable select or master by the jumper? try another ide cable. try the drive to see if problem follows or not.

Hello, I just wanted to update this thread.
I ended up calling sony they gave me an RMA# I sent them the drive and 8 days later I received a Dru-810 in the mail. I will always buy sony products in the future. They were very nice and very QUICK to replace my drive.
