hi mel_2700 welcome to afterdawn, Ok first thing I see when you posted your log is you have your full name and nero serial number included. Use the notepad with the pencil icon next to your 1st post and edit/ delete them out. Your nero serial starts with 1A2*-****-****. really 255mb is not alot of memory as xp takes alot of that itself. I suggest you boost up to about 512mb if within your budget or turn off some of the background programs while trying to burn a dvd. you are burning too close to the edge of the dvd. Try to stay around the 4300mb size. when burning a dvd slow it down to 4x to avoid skips, pixellating, etc. what type of blank media are you using? I see you have a dvdrw burner but what is the name? use the nero cleantool http://nero.com/us/Clean_Tools.html to get rid of incd as it interferes with your drive and with only 255mb of ram your disks are probably swapping. I'm just pointing out the basics that you can fix and I'm sure there are others who will pop in to pick out what I missed. okay how do i slow the burner down cause there is only maximum or 16x. Also the type of media I use is dvd+r by memorex 16x. The brand of my burner is I/O Magic (external)
DVD+R memorex is made by Moser Baer India, so they are DECENT, not GREAT, but as for 16x or MAX, is the disk in the drive when you are doing this????
no, mine is step up so that when you start everything, like encoding and that, you pretty much set everything up front and once you hit next it is set in motion then once the encoding part is completed then it tells you to put in your blank disc. But I did read in one other area here that memorex was no good and that i should be using fugi or verbatims, is that maybe why?? Before I've burn alot and this problem just happened like in the last few (6) burns, it's a mystery to me.
You need the disc to be in the drive before you hit burn otherwise nero has no way to know what disc is on its way, so will go at maximum. The problem with companies like memorex is that they use widely differing quality in disc manufacturers, some decent , some utter atrocious rubbish. Most people won't know the difference between the discs so its in effect a lottery as to whether you get good discs..
Well I did everything you said to do about freeing up memory and getting rid of incd and some other things and it worked finally! I've had 6 out of 6 successful burns!! @mel_2700 - you're having intermittent success because you haven't changed hardly anything since last time..... - EDIT OUT your serial number - insufficient total memory, therefore no free memory. buy more memory or you'll be back here posting again.. - you're burning too close to outer edge of discs. you need to alter the target size to 4300MB. i don't know where this setting lives in Recode cus i don't use Recode. - hmmm.. i don't use Prodisc. IF fixing all the other problems doesn't help, try better media - the disc has to ben in the drive BEFORE you hit Burn otherwise your burn will go at max speed. Bad news, especially since most people recommend 4x maximum for movies (on perfectly setup systems) - see previous comment You're gonna have to resolve ALL the outstanding issues from last month, that's why you're back here i'm afraid.
After selecting "Copy Entire Movie to DVD" or "Copy Main Movie Only," the [bold]My DVD Backup[/bold] window will open. [bold]Before[/bold] you click Import DVD, look towards the bottom right-hand corner of the window. In the box under where Fit to Target is checked, select Custom (instead of DVD-5) and set the target size at 4300MB (personally, I set mine at 4350, but I only use high quality media). This setting will be saved automatically...
