I 2 months ago I upgraded my pc. Here were the specs: Mb-Asus A7v-266Eaa Athlon XP-1700+ Western Digital 40gb 7200rmp Hd GeForce 2 MX video Card 512 mb 2100 ddr Windows XP Sp1 Plextor Cd-Rw Drive Integrated audio Basic Modem 300w generic power supply My new system recently upgraded Mb-Gigabyte Ga-7vt600p-rz Amd Sempron 2800+ cpu Ati Radeon 9600 Pro with 256mb ddr 1 gig Pc 3200 Kingston 400mhz memory Oritron 16x Dvd-rw drive Windows XP-Sp 2 Same Western Digital Hd 40gb Seagate 250 Gb 7200 Rpm Hd. Same power supply My problem is ever since I upgraded I got all the lates drivers for my components and installed. Things were going great until I had to replace my Oritron Dvd-r when it died on me with a Lite-On 16x Dvd-Rw. Thing is I guess after running this system for 2 months with the new components and burning dvd-r left and right I guess the power supply got overloaded. I usually left the computer on all night and even when I go to work. So it got to the point where the computer would just freeze while I was burning a dvd-r. When my Oritron gave out on me I purchased a Lite-On dvd-r and when I installed it in my case the drawer would not open like it had no power. So I openend my case and took the drive out and it worked outside my computer, very strange. I don't like external drives so I figured I would replace the power supply so I recently purchased a 480w power supply (generic). The thing is when I installed the new power supply the computer booted up and it said "cmos checksum error". After that when the computer booted up the monitor would not come on. After all that found out that my Ati video card might not be compatible with my mb. I even removed the mb from the case and the pc started up but no video now. I tried my monitor out on my laptop and the monitor is fine. I don't know could it be that my 300w ps was too weak and a new 480w was too much?
[bold]NOT AT ALL[/bold] Power supplies will give what power is needed. The wattage is the max allowed p/the power supply. You may notice that your old power supply doesn't have as many power connection internally as your new one. All the devices thay you have added to your system; make sure you have the latests drives and that your MB is flashed with the latest BIOS.
