I have just installed an Emprex 16X DVD-ROM internal drive on my Compaq Presario PC. It has an originally installed DVD-RW working as Master. The new DVD-ROM was configured as Slave. The BIOS sees both drives okay. In Windows though, there are three DVD drives shown: DVD-RW Drive - E:, and two DVD-Drives - D: and J:. The RW drive still works fine. The DVD-ROM opens on its own, doesn't read disks and can't stay closed any longer than a second or two. The system view doesn't show any problematic devices or conflicts. DVD/CD-ROM Drives include:

    -DVD-16X DVD-ROM BDV316G (newly added drive)
-Generic DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device (no idea what this is)
    -LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-16335 (DVD-RW drive)

What can be wrong with my PC or the DVD-ROM?

    Thanks in advance.

Do ya really need two DVD Rom drives installed? Your burner is a DVD Rom in itself. Try removing one (unattaching it), and see if all is well.
Also, make sure that your burner is not attached to the same grey cable as the master hard-drive is. Never attach them on the same IDE cable.
