Great soft modding tutorial... best one i have seen

ok, like many other people i myself had trouble soft modding. browsing a forum, like this, i came across a nice tutorial. i realize there are tutorials similar to this but this tutorial goes into great detail and provides all the information you need to soft modding your xbox.

I do go into great detail and most of this stuff is self explanatory but this is a tutorial... If you follow these instructions, I guarantee your xbox will be soft modded.

You need the following items:
Splinter Cell Original or 007 Original (platinum hits is not supported)
Action Replay
Xbox (of course)
Splinter Cell or 007 linux files (read down for more information about retrieving them)
DotHalo or H2X

First (Downloading your profile exploits)
I used the Splinter Cell profile exploit to load A4H x but I believe 007 and splinter cell use the same exploit method.

Second (Applying the files to your memory card)
Once downloaded, open up the AR (Action Replay) executable. Drag the zips onto the memory card (do not tamper with these files, file corruption could occur) without unzipping them. Once the file(s) are on your memory card pull the memory card out from your adapter and plug it in the xbox memory slot.

Third (Applying the profile to your xbox)
Turn your xbox on and go to the console. Click the tab that says Memory.

Follow these steps to put the file(s) onto your xboxs hard disk.

Press left (selects the memory card), click the memory card (goes into your memory card), go down to your splinter cell saves and press right (selects the first file(s)), click the file(s) and press copy. If you’re using splinter cell you will have to press right again to go to the other file. Select and press copy.
There, your files are now on your xbox.

Fourth (loading Evo X)
This step is for Splinter Cell, I didn't use 007 so im unsure how to go to profiles.
Start the game. Press Start Game and select the profile that says LINUX. Press Revert to last checkpoint or something like that.

Note* If you get a error that says Please contact customer support, please do not be alarmed. Your xbox is in no harm. It just means the profile was corrupt. Simply redownload the profiles and this time, DON'T TOUCH THEM!

EvoX (Evolution X) will load almost instantly. Once it's loaded, you can access your FTP. If you are unable to access your FTP, that means your typing the intranet IP in wrong. On your xbox go to System Utils -> Settings and you will be provided with an IP. The first few numbers MAY look like this.
192.168.

You will have to load this every time if you want to access your FTP. Also, keep EvoX loaded until your done replacing your modded maps. You will learn more about modding your maps below.

Fifth (Access your FTP)
Many of you probably have fallen into the rumor that you will need Flash FXP to access your FTP. Well, you do not need it at all. All you need is internet explorer.

Open internet explorer and tpye in ftp://xbox:xbox@your-xbox-ip.
Ex: ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.2.2

If you are getting an error that says Timed Out, that means you can not see the xbox's FTP server. Your network may not be setup properly. You will have to contact a member in your family or a friend with some kind of networking knowledge. If you have a router, it's almost impossible to screw up.

Sixth (Modding your maps!)
Ok, when your logged into your FTP you will see many folders. C - D - E - F - G - X - Y - Z. These are what we call partition hard drives. Means your hard drive is split up into several sections.

Double click the folder that says E. Double click TDATA. You will see loads of folders. The one that ends with 64 will be the HALO 2 folder. Go into that folder. Double click $c.

There should be 3 folders, if not, more. For now we will do a test map. Click the first folder. In that folder will have containment.map and warlock.map.

I would advise backing all your maps up on your computer.

I organized my folders like this.
First I made a folder named HALO. Put 2 folders in there called BACKUP MAPS and another folder called MODDED MAPS. Do this and it will make your life easier.

Download warlock.map to your BACKUP MAPS. Then copy warlock.map in your BACKUP MAPS to your MODDED MAPS.

Make a folder in your MODDED MAPS called Patches.

Download a warlock mod at http://www.xbstop.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10
Once downloaded, put it in your folder Patches.

Open up DotHalo and go to Apply PPF Patch -> Original Map -> Find the folder you made named MODDED MAPS and go to it -> Select warlock.map. Then click PPF Patch -> Find the folder you made named Patches -> Select warlock.pff. Apply Patch. Once it's done it will ask you if you want to add a signature to it or something like that. Select YES. Once that's done go to the MODDED MAPS folder and copy warlock.map. Go to your FTP and replace the old warlock.map with the new one. This will take some time.

Once its done, pop open your disk drive and take out your game and put in halo 2. Select the map you modded and start the game. If you got Failed To Load Map error, then you didn’t encrypt the file when you patched it.

ur tutorial is awsome i can actually understand this one and the downloads worked but the linux profile is showin up when i go into splinter cell and try to load the profile

Of course it may not look exactly the same due to dash backgrounds but look for the setting areas indicated. Find the wording that's similar in your to guide you through it.

**edit: Are you sure it's EvoX & not UnleashX??

I don't know if this thread is still active... but i got everything done correctly with the maps and all... but it won't let me sign into xbl... it says right away could not connect start troubleshooter....
