I'm familiar with the need to use the burner at less
than maximum speed but Nero always defaults to
maximum at set up of the program.

I've been careful to bring the speed way down to 2.4 to avoid
burns but I've seen the program go into burn cycle at
16x anyway. Is there a slower speed at which Nero resets
maximum? I'm at my wits end.

What can I do about this? Once the burn cycle is going
the only thing that can be done is let it complete and
hope there are no errors. there are -always_ errors at
    16x!

    Catch 22.

Try putting in the blank disc before setting the burn speed.

Can you post a Nero log? Make sure you remove your serial number. It's near the top and starts with 1a23 or something similar.

Nero makes a copy of every burn. Usually puts them here:
    C\:program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log

ok load both disc (the movie and a blank)in the PC
open nero click copy dvd then set your burn speed in the dropdown box
you have to have the dvds loaded BEFORE you set the burn speed.then click copy

Nero History is a big file. From the times indicated I can't
tell if it writes top to bottom ot bottom to top-- last entry
first or last entry last. The time would have to be about 7:24 pm.

But I'll try the disk insertion first before setting the
    burn speed.

    Nice wallpaper.

    I'm using only one dvd.

And I only have one piece of media left.

But it's important to straighten this out
because it's happened more than once.

these lines separate each burn within the logfile - "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

the most recent burn 'section' will be the LAST section of your Nero log

ps you don't need to waste discs whilst troubleshooting - just do 'simulation' burn which asks for a blank disc but only goes thru the motions with it, it doesn't actually write to the disc, and you get a log entry written to the logfile..
