I have ripped the files from 2 smaller dvds and want to know if its possible to burn the 2 set of files together on one dvd. should be about 3.9 gb total together. I tried dropping the files in the video folder together but Nero will not accept them both since they are named the same.. What can i do? Rename files? if so. how? using nero burning rom 6.0 .
Thanks in advance for anyhelp and your time.

It might be easier to use Shrink.
Use Open Files to open the first clip. Once Shrink finishes analyzing, select reauthor. Drag the clip (Title 1) into the compilation window.
On the right, open the file browser menu and find the second file. Double click to select.
Drag it over to the right as well. It will also analyse.

In the compilation window you should have this:
    Title 1
    Title 1(2)

Have Nero enabled in Edit> Preferences> File I/O.
Put a blank in, select "Backup!"
From the Backup DVD menu, select your DVD burner as the target.
    Select OK.
Shrink will begin encoding and then open Nero to burn your DVD.

    Hi Gamedogs,
The burn itself failed at the point when it was supposed to format your blank. Are you using a DVD +RW disc?

    Some possible causes:
    First your Nero needs updated:

    [bold]Nero API version: 6.0.0.0
    Using interface version: 6.3.1.4
    [/bold]
    New version is 6.6.0.16

    You can get it here:
    http://nero.com/us/Nero_6_Ultra_Edition_Update_Update.php

Before you download the new version, run Nero's clean tool to remove the old program completely. Make sure you have your Nero serial number written down.

    http://nero.com/us/Nero_6_CleanTool.html

Your burner's firmware is very outdated, the newest version is 1.72, you have 1.27.

You can find a FW update here:

    http://www.ricoh.com/drive/asia/support/download/mp5125a/

Here Nero errors because it thinks your blank is not formatted. It then tries to format the blank, which it fails to do. So it errors again:

This may be a problem with the DVD-RW blank you are using. Sometimes they do go bad but it is rare. I have had 6 Imation DVD+RW DVDs and have used them hundreds of times. I have one that will not format.

Nero should have kicked the disc back out of your drive, but didn't. That is why it's important to get your old Nero removed correctly and the new version installed. Firmware will help you as well. You current firmware was up to date in 2002. Time to upgrade!!

Let me know how it works out.

It does look like the Shrink compilation would have worked. That didn't cause the problems you see on your burn log.

    Frank

    Edit:

Afterdawn's Nero download is a lot faster than going directly to the Nero site. Try this for the download:

Hey thanks for all the helpfull tips Frank.. I did get it to burn a disk for me on a dvd+R but after it was completed and process was done with no problems the dvd would not play in the pc or the dvd player going to follow your advice and try the nero and firm ware update.. And as soon as i get a few blank DVD+R's ill try it again and let you know how i made out. Unless you feel it will work on a DVD+RW?I have a few of them around here.

Cannot update for different Type Code.

    Make sure Selected Source File.

Not sure what this is about.. Do i have the wrong Firm Ware? How do i find out the firm ware info and where to get it?
Thanks again for your time and help..

I'm glad it worked for you!
I find firmware to be a pain in the butt to find sometimes. When I reply to threads like yours I usually just enter the drive make and model into Google along with "firmware".

For updating my own drives I use DVD Decrypter which has a firmware ID and search feature. It will connect to http://www.rpc1.org and find the correct firmware as well as listing the current firmware.

Open Decrypter > Tools > Drive > Check For Firmware Updates...

Decrypter is a "must have" program for this and a bunch of other reasons.
