Last year i put a lot of video material onto yellow datawrite DVD+Rs using my standalone DVD recorder. Now i go to play them on anything but that recorder, and they dont work. The problem is that recorder is now having problems of its own, and i cant get it to do anything due to the remote refusing to work. Does this mean all the footage on those datawrite DVD+Rs are now more or less useless?
well, from what i know about these media...i am going to ASSUME you got the 8x dvd+r MCC003 ones~ (based on your description, i am talking about the yellow/gold top ones) naturally a VERY good media ID code, but i really don't know about the quality of datawrites... i don't have a standalone dvd recorder, so i really do not know the process required to burn onto blank media...but, IF the "video material" was burned onto the MCC003 coded datawrites, you SHOULD be ok with them...do you have a computer w/ a dvd burner to try them on? to see if it will work? the reason i am asking this is that many standalone dvd PLAYERS will not play dvd+r format UNLESS it is booktyped to dvd-rom~ i have a few players like this at my house right now that will ONLY play the dvd+r format IF it is booktyped to dvd-rom~ also, if you have a computer, a disc identifyer check would be helpful to CONFIRM what i assume about the datawrites you have being the wonderful MCC003 media coding... hope others can shed some light on this as i DO NOT own a standalone dvd recorder and wouldn't have the slightest idea as to the burn process required to do so...i am VERY familiar with burning dvds on my computer w/ various dvd burner drives... good luck...if you in fact did use the "good" datawrites (as SOME of their discs are manufactured by CRAP companies; if you got the MCC003 ones you should be ok)...the video footage you have on there MIGHT still be recoverable and good...need to take this apart piece by piece to find where the error is coming from...whether it be media issue, burn issue, standalone dvd player issue..etc...
When i put them into my DVD burner on my pc, the computer recognises them as blank CDRs oddly enough, so obviously i cant play them here either, DVD shrink wont recognise them either...
really? then i guess that SHOULD rule out that you got the "GOOD" datawrites...i think it's safe to say you got some BAD QUALITY media my friend... if your pc burner does not recognize them, shrink does not recognize them...i am at a loss for anything else to recommend...poor quality discs are PRONE to this type of degrading within a reasonably short amount of time... but, what model/brand is ur pc dvd burner?...we might be able to recover the data/footage IF we can rule out that your burner is up to date with it's firmware AND everything else is properly configured...
I have a freecom DVD burner, and the one that is inside my dell notebook. Neither recognise them. The only thing that recognises them is the burner they were made on (the standalone phillips). Ive long since been using ritek, which work flawlessly, even usually at highspeed burning. But it looks like these datawrites are for binning. Oh, and the PS2 wont take 'em either
ok, i guess we ruled out all the possible problems...i used MANY ritek 8x dvd-r G05s in the past FLAWLESSLY, but the datawrites i feel are the cause of your problems...i will have to say that i would have to agree with your own suggestion... sorry, another victim of crappy media...
Hi, ive realised the problem isnt with the media, but with the Phillips standalone recorder. I recorded an old movie off TV with one of the Ritek DVDRs, and got the same problem. Does this mean all of my DVDs are useless? Whats going on?
