Sorry I posted twice but I finally figured out how to paste the error log. As I said in my previous post I'm not able to burn dvd-r using the updated version of Nero. I've used different media including: Maxell, verbatin. fuji & Tayo Yuden. I can burn any dvd+r disc with no problem. Does anybody have a clue?
    Thanks,
    Jenlicris

    - EDIT OUT your serial number

    - you're burning to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences, thus avoiding outer edge of discs and not sacricing much space

    - use better media (i see you've tried different media also
    - splat! ; the only thing wrong in the log is the target size..

I also won't recommend burning on the fly - too many chances for errors/problems. Click this option off also.
My LiteOn does not do well w/ prodisc - hit or miss.

Your burner don't like those prodiscs. You've got the latest updated firmware,BSOS, on your 1633s according to my source. Looks like your firmware can't handle them.

Mort81 has a lite-on,not sure of the model#, and prodiscs gave him many issues.

Stick with the verbatim/maxell/taiyo yuden/ and fuji. All very good to great quality in the plus format.

Why the dash format when you posted the plus format worked ok for you?

@saugmon, i no longer worry about that paragraph with all the zeroes, as all my Verb -R's (of various speed ratings) have all zeroes there. the way i interpret logs is like this -

    - that one-liner on it's own to me would be a firmware issue, or newer discs than an up to date firmware can recognise, and this 3-liner below

would be correctly identified by the firmware

Can you explain how this is:
    It says dvd+r.

    And this:
    Now it says dvd-r?

I'm just curious. I never really noticed that in any other nero logs.

That +r disc must be in the other lite-on drive and the prodisc -r is in the 1633s. The logfile isn't as clear as it might be, I guess the copy-fly messages should have the name of the drive directly above that +r disc, ie the way that it states the 1633s has the -r disc inserted...

    Creaky, OK, I see now.
Looks like jenlicris is re-ripping one of those plus backups onto the dash prodisc-on the fly. If that's the case:

Definitely the target size on the plus disc that is being re-ripped is too large.

I keep all of mine at 4360 mbs and haven't had a single coaster yet using nero copy disc-on the fly with my backups and even a few original dvd-5 movies. That's well over 300 of them.

jenlicris: Let us know if those dash prodiscs are only doing this when you backup on the fly or the safer rip to HD and burn with nero.

It doesn't matter which burner I use, I always get "burn fail" using any kind of dash media with Nero. I've tried ripping to my hard drive and also copy on the fly & both produce errors with Nero. What I don't understand is why I can get a successful burn with Sonic Record Now & not with Nero. The only reason I want to use the dash media is because I just purchased a fifty pack of Maxell & hate to waste them. My +r discs work perfectly no matter what program I use. I'm also quite happy with the Lite-ons that I have which leads me to believe it's not a burner problem. All three drives in my opinion work really well. Any ideas?

reduce the target size, as we've stated.... i have DVD Shrink permamently set to 4300MB regardless of quality media used (i only use the good stuff anyway but even 4300MB is very close to the edge of the disc for my chubby fingers)

@jenlicris - your PM gave me a thought.

(i can't see why your burner won't get on with -R media if you've tried a few brands, es;pecially if you've used Verbatim), however as you can use +R you can booktype +R (otherwise known as bitsetting) - changing the booktype to 'dvd-rom' will make the disc appear to the standalone player as a dvd-rom disc not a +R making it more compatible.

Howeer i'd be more concerned as to why you can't burn -R in case the drive's faulty. But are you sure Verbatim -R's won't burn either ?

The drives are not faulty. I could put a sandwich in & it will burn as long as it isn't dash media. These are what i've tried in the dash media: Ty, Maxell, Fuji, Sony & TDK. I've not tried Verbatim minus media. How do I go about Bitsetting? Thanks for all of your responses.

@jenlicris - various ways, one is thru Nero's Burning Rom. go to 'Recorder/Choose Recorder/Options' and set book type settings to Auto..

Only certain burners have this ability. Lite-on is one of them. They have their own booktyping utility you can download. I don't have the link for it,but you can pm mort81, I know he has that link and is very knowlegable with that utility.

You can only booktype the plus format media to dvd-rom.That is why I no longer buy the dash format.

I downloaded the bitsetting utility & I also patched my latest version of Nero thinking that I could somehow use the dash media that I have but no go. I'm running out to the store today to purchase the Verbatim dash media. If it doesn't work for Nero, it will work with the Sonic record now. Why that is I don't know. Thanks for all of the feedback.

So, If I understand this correctly using the bitsetting utility I can fool a Dvd player into thinking it's a -r disc when in reality it's a +r disc. Is that right? That still doesn't help me with the error messages that I get from Nero. I did another simulation with the new Verbatim dash media I purchased today. The simulation failed.

Bitsetting fools the dvd player into thinking the disc is a DVD-Rom. This can only be done with +r discs.
Click this off - and try a simulation again. This could be part of the problem along with the source disc. Copying on the fly increases your chances of errors. The source disc - is this a copy?
