Hi! We are looking at buying the Emerson DVD recorder/VCR combo (EWR20V4). The two main purposes that I need this is #1, the obvious - to dub home movies onto the DVDs for storage and #2, I am taking several taped classes through a local college. The tapes are VHS format. I would like to be able to put them onto DVD and watch them on my laptop at work - it is just too hard to sit down and watch these things at home. I have a family at home and all of the wonderful things that go along with that - no privacy. I need to know what I will need to do to be able to play the DVDs on my computer. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron that I bought in January 2004. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You should be all set with this recorder.

Do not, however, try to make copies of Copywrited VHS with this machine. It can not be done

Home movies should be fine. As for those college tapes, if they are manufactured they most likely are copywrited. These will not work.

Hi! I appreciate such a fast response! I am not sure how the tapes at the college are done. They are real great quality and I don't think they are copyrighted. I will give it a shot. Thanks again!
