I have been using DvdShrink & Nero for years with no prob, then outa the blue I can't backup nothing! One day it was working next day it wasn't. I've tried AnyDvd & CloneDvd also. The ripping process completes, but when attempting the burn I get a error halfway through the process saying "write error, bad media." Thing is I've tried several different media, Ridata, & Verbatim, in my HP 300i Burner which I've used forever. I have hundrends of backups, but this has put a huge chink in my armor! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Should I post elsewhere since I'm no newbie? Thanks alot!

Did Nero hang before these problems showed up? I don't know about anyone else, but seems like every time I put in a disc, like a CDRW that's bad, and it sits because Nero is trying to decipher what it is,
if I kill Nero.. it's hosed. I have to restore the registry and install a Nero Burning Rom update to get back on the air. I use
ERUNT freeware so it's not that big a deal to make daily saves of my
Registry to avoid doing system restores. It just seems odd that a program can't handle a crash without corrupting all its settings.

Anyway, that's been my "fix all" when Nero gets hosed. And anyway, ERUNT is good to have.

mossfan84 have you uninstalled and reinstalled nero.also have you tried nero on it own without the automatic burn that comes with dvdshrink maybe dvdshrink is not communicating properly with nero if that is the case i would reinstall both programs.Remember burners do not last for ever so if you have alot of time on this burner it may be dead are you able to read a disc with it.I have also heard ripping with a burner or any cd, dvd rom will shorten the life of the unit. Have you tried any other programs to burn with to elimante that nero is the problem can you burn other types of media or is it solely dvd?

Hey guys thanks for responding! Yea I've tried multiple programs (Shrink, Nero, DvdDecrypter, CloneDvd, etc.) with no success. I've tried different media too, and even reinstalled my burner, & the programs. Could my burner really just be dead? I've tried everything,
I went to HP webs site to get a firmware update for my 300i, but there was none to be had, & I've updated it as much as possible. Is there firmware elsewhere, any thoughts would be appriciated, I'm up to like 12 coasters, thanks!

Sounds serious. Only suggestion I have is get a box of DVD+RW to avoid coasters during test burns in future.

well mossfan84 have you used the hell out of it.can you get it to do anything read a disc, you said you cant burn anything huh i would try it in another computer that may redundent but if it is truly dead then it wont work thier either.I would put money on its dead.To extend life of your burner do not rip with it.I lost a dvd rom i used it solely for ripping killed it in about 3 or little less yrs sorry for the bad news.
