I'll start by stating that I'm completely ignorant concerning this DVD burning thing, so if I cause anyone's eyes to start bleeding, I apologize in advance. I'm trying to burn a bunch of .avi files to a DVD-R using a program that came with my computer: Sonic MyDVD The thing is, it won't allow me to put more than about 6 files on a single disc, but I've received burned discs from other people that held about 26 .avi files. On my computer, the file size is about 175 MB per file, but when I try to import them to that program, it lists each file as 697 MB. So I'm totally lost concerning this. I keep reading something about DVD shrinking, but I don't really understand what that is. As for converting an .avi file to DVD, is that something my program does for me automatically, or is that something I have to have an additional program do for me? Is it really necessary if all I want to do is "save" files, or is it only necessary if you want to be able to play the files back on a DVD player? *bows head in shame* If there's a guide that answers these questions for me already, please point me the way. I've tried looking around for a while, but failed and ran out of time. So this is my second strategy.
It has nothing to do with the size of your AVI files, what matters is the Length of your AVI files and generally Programs Like "Sonic MyDVD" will only let you put about 2 to maybe 2.5 hours Max on a Standard DVD..... Cheers
@chingutee, Get VSO DivXToDVD (the free setup version 0.5.2.99) and you'll be all square away. DivXToDVD will convert AVI (DivX) files into DVD easily. Once you're done with all of your files, and if it's over 4.7GB, then just have DVD Shrink do the encoding/compressing job so it'll perfectly fit onto a singly layer 4.7GB DVD-R/+R disc. After that just have whatever burning engines or whatever you desire to backup your files.
