I have a pvr 150 card and it by itself has no way of getting video out to tv. I have a geforce4 4400ti with s- video out and soe other white looking plug and then the plug for the moniter.but what i am trying to do is get the video out to the tv. Any help would be great. Does anyone else have that card and are able to get video out to the tv?
ok hook up the svideo to your tv. then u will have to play with your display settings to get it view on tv. but i got to tell u... the quality is sux. is not worth it. the white cord is probably audio. the manual for the card should help. but like i said its not going to be good to put it to tv. i have a winpvr 350 and i have the same problem luckily i am able to caputre then burn to dvd. or keep on computer. if your wanting to get into HTPC then u will need a better video card and or tv so u can use at least component or dvi. good luck
OK if i have a old 800 that i want to make into a dvr what video card does everyone think would be best? I hate to spend a ton on money on a old computer. Anyway thanks in advance for your answers.
with out getting into detail is that an 800 cpu. u should be able to use your video card for just the capture but if your goal is to make a pvr/dvr i think that will be stressing it. u could always do some tests. i have had my card for over a year but the only thing i have got going is sat and cable into it and capture. i have not been able to do video out to tv because they only way i can do that is with svideo which is not really a good idea. now if u can buy a new video card ATI have good cards and they come with a dvi-component adapter then u could hook it up to tv or reciever with component. i prefer nvidia so i have to wait unil i get a better tv. for newbies and/or people who dont have a lot of time for configuring the setup. or money to throw at it you might be better off with a tivo or replay device. i have had a replay for 4 years now and its awesome. simple. plus u can download the stuff off the replay and burn to dvd or cd. google search: www.digitalnetworksna.com www.ati.com/products/hdtvadapter/ u can get a ati Radeon® 8500 for around 40 which would work with the ati adapter(+$30) good luck
I have no idea what "crazydrive" is really trying to say... Bottom line: Your video card has S-Video out. Purchase the right cable to go from that S-video (there is an adapter that comes with the card) to whatever inputs your TV (or VCR) has (usually composite/RCA). In control panel, display, advanced, you can set up the Ti-4400 to have TV as the second display. You DO NOT need a better video card, nor a faster CPU for a dedicated PVR. There are lots of posts on various boards of people using P3-800's with a PVR-150. Use GB-PVR to control it all.
yeah sorry got kind of off topic but i dont recommend using svideo the quality wont be good. i think the max res u can use is 800 by 600. at least i wasnt happy with doing it. it would be blurry for me. alot it is just experimenting with it.
i know there is powerstrip but i have tried everything i can think of and still looks blurry. rebootjim: do u know of another program that can help get rid of that?
It's not a program you need, it's drivers, and/or video controlling software. The mpeg-2 decoder you use (the one that plays back the stuff from the computer on the TV) can make a huge difference, as can the drivers you have for the video card, the resolution you select, both for the recording, and playback, as well as output to TV. S-video isn't that bad (usually) but if you want to try different hardware, the FX5200 would be the next step up. 800x600 on a TV is about as high as you want to go anyhow. Remember, a computer monitor is completely different than a TV, and it's resolution is MUCH higher than a standard 4:3 TV. If you have HD with DVI, then get a video card that can output 720i, or maybe even 1080i.
well the wierd thing is i am using a fx5900 ultra. proably somthing i am doing wrong in the config so i guess i will keep messing with it. my computer: amd 3200 2 gb ram geforce fx 5900 ultra win pvr 350
first off to make a dvr you need 1. a computer running at 1.4 ghz or faster 2. a 128 meg to 64 meg graphics card 3. 200 gig hard drive the video incoding will take a lot of hard drive space 4. a capture card to capture tv signals 5. a piece of software to watch the videos on my recommendation 1.buy a new pc a cheap one from like dell or e-machine then take out there crappy video card and replace it with a good one and place all the other parts into it and you will have a nice dvr bad news 800 mhz machines suck at being used as a dvr if you need to go with a cheaper solution try purchasing a 900 mhz processor it will help but your video quality will suck
but if thats all your doing and your carefull 800 pc will work. plus i dont recommend upgrading until u have the basics going as a pvr. sometimes it can take awhile to configure it. then once u get it going upgrade as necessary.

Sure. Pipe your S-Video out to the VCR, and from VCR to TV. Tune the TV to chan 3 (as you normally would to watch a tape). This can sometimes improve the quality, because most VCR's have some sort of signal booster. It will also help if you purchase a premium quality cable. "Monster" cables are great. Far better quality than a cheaper (S-video) cable from computer to TV.
ok i thought so but i have it hooked up to vcr then to tv but it works when i first boot the computer but then it goes blank. and i have tried evertying i can do in configuring my video card. its a geforce fx 5900 ultra so i know it works. and i used the svideo out from the tv card so i know it works. could the wierd adapter that the video card uses go bad? any suggestions would be appreciated.
rebootjim is right on using the resolution required to see images on TV. Keep in mine there are limitations on how long of cable you have. I can't tell you how long the exact limit is because it probably depends on quality of your S-Video cable and how much your card puts out, basically signal strength.
