You CANNOT use Xbox live after you softmod. The softmod disables the connection to Live after it is installed. Even if you did sign in, you would be permanently banned from Xbox Live. The only way to get unbanned is to copy the account to another Xbox and connect using it. Xbox Live only bans the HDD Key specific to the Xbox you were using the account on. I've done it!

If you still have the softmod gamesave on your xbox, just press the eject button instead of the power at startup and it should(could) go to the softmod settings screen. Find where it says "restore ms backup" and run. If your ms dash was backed up it will restore it back to the original settings.
