    I have 640 megs of ram and I'm running at 2.2 GHz.
    If I got more ram would it significantly speed up the transcoding process? Right now it takes me about 3 hours to do a full DVD.
    My computer can take 2gigs of ram max. but I don't want to invest another $100 to save 5 seconds.

    are you telling me that your computer can transcode a full dvd in 45 minutes? YOu must be running at 10GHz.
    If 640 megs takes 4 hours I doubt 2 gigs will get me down to 45 minutes. I'm thinking I need more computing power. What system do you have? And how long are the movies you make? Normally, I"m burning a movie that is about 2-3 hours long.

    @jonesmike

    What are you doing while transcoding, are you multi-tasking, do you have the internet running? When was the last time you defragged, and are you doing your backup on the fly because this will take longer. I have a 2.4 processor with a gig of ram and it does not take me much longer than 15 to 20 minutes unless I use Shrink with quality enhancements or DVD Rebuilder which can take hours. Also, check and see if DMA is enabled for your drive.

    i'm with arniebear, most films i do (movie only) take 15/20mins to transcode, then 15mins to burn to dvd at 4x max.
    A full disc or an episodic disc may take 40mins but no more than that..

    @jonesmike - you still haven't removed your email address from your signature..

    if you'll notice a few posts up, i am already subscribed to this thread. give the guy a chance to do it for christs sake. he's been told a few times on this thread already so i see no need to make a post just to warn him again. and there's certainly no need to get all vigilante on him, thats my job.

    Ok, I thought the problem was Nero. But with everyone's suggestions I'm going to conclude it's HOW I use my computer that causes the delays.
    I'm ALWAYS muti-tasking, I'm always online and my computer is always doing 4 or 5 things at once.

    I can live with the 3 hour time to make a DVD, because I can't live with having my computer on and not having online Texas Hold'em playing in the background.

    thanks guys (and gals?)_
