what kinds of programs do you currently have? and what is your choice of media? what format are the files you have on the hdd? and what burner do you have and firmware?
    then we can get started.

ok, well, a few problems already. nero and roxio fight each other. the phillips media.......... stay away from, use your fuji, providing its made in japan. do you have a way to idnetify your media? codes?
    use this for dvd shrink
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
dvd decrypter is for cracking the encryption on pressed dvds (original movies) and shrink will compress it, you can use nero with them to back up those.
but still need to know what format these files are (assuming .avi files)
    what burner and firmware too.

i really cant tell cause when i look it says nero showtime file. the burner came with my e-machine. i had talked to someone on here before and they told me it was good for both types of dvdr's. i have been using epower dvd player to watch the movies

thats because when you installed nero, you or it selected to be the default player. no biggie, these are downloaded files i am betting, so they are .avi format.
still need to know how big your files are? do you have the full version of nero? if not, update it from nero's web site, do the major update, but only do the top 2 updates, and if you have nero's in cd installed, delete that too, you dont need it at all, it causes conflicts. how old is that dvd player, i have never heard of it before. media type, + & - are like this......... the dash is recognized by the majority of players, the + is for newer. like back to around 3 years or so. find out about nero, and we can go on.

both. i saw some that had iso attached. guess where i tried to burn them before. is it still possible to burn those and it work?

yes, the iso. thats what you need to burn. but your file size will matter too. do you have the full version of nero?
i am just trying to help you, and i need to know what you have to work with. if you have the full version of nero, with the latest updates, then this is what i would do. the simple version
open nero, select at the top, dvd, then open up NVE (nero vision express), then select photo/video, then select 'make your own dvd video' and from that point, you can add your files from where ever you have them stored on your puter. watch your meter at the bottom, make sure you select a dvd5 (or unless you are gonna use a dvd9) and click your files in there, untill you have what you need ot exceeded your space. it will then encode (which will take some time) then burn to disk. easy, yes, some may not like that way, but i think it will get you in the right direction. it has options, explore them, thats the only way you can learn the program. you can make meuns, create dvd labels, covers, it goes on and on. experiment, you will get the hang of it. your ISO files are ready to be burned, use nero's burning rom for that.

what media did you use? and did you say you have the latest of nero? and do your files play all the way through on the computer, being that they are downloaded, and not the most reliable source.

you dont seem to be answering any of the questions i am asking you and its making it very difficult to help you out.
mpeg1 needs to be converted to mpeg2 and the .avi also. nero vision express will do the conversion for you. but if your files are corrupt, all the converting in the world will do you no good.
are your downloaded files 100% good? do you have the full version of nero? media choice?

You need to convert the files to dvd format. I don't mess with converting formats but the AVI files need to be converted and if the others are ISO for the entire folder then they can be burned as they are as long as the folder is under 4.38 gb otherwise you will need to load them into dvd shrink or similiar proggy to compress to fit on a dvd5. Your fuji discs are probably ok but just to be sure use this free proggy http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ and tell us the media ID. I don't download any movies off the web so don't mess with AVI's but maybe gear79 can help you there.

Your firmware is very outdated. 1.0c is most current. Look here. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1517 Make sure you pick the f/w update that applies to your set up. Your fuji discs are made by prodisc. Kind of mediocre media. Sometimes they will cause problems. When buying fuji media always look for made in japan on the label or wrapper.

mort81 is right on the dowmloads, but i never ;) d/l movies off the net. anyway, this is how i do it, and will probabbly be the easiest way with out confusing you. my downloaded file is in one of my folders, called shared, where you have yours, i dont know, but as long as you know where your file is, you can get it. open nero, select dvd (to burn to) click make your own dvd, add files from where you have them, add as many as you want, as long as it does not exceed the limit, (it will tell you otherwise if you do) then, from there, you can follow through with making menus, screen shots, etc. once you are satisfied, click burn to target, which is your burner, it will convert your avi files to mpeg2 and will give you a preview and it does take some time, depends on file sizes and pc specs. mine normally takes an hour for a 700meg file (from start to finish) then you should be done. but if it stopping toward the end, or is giving you an error, do what mort81 says, update your firmware.
see if that works for you.
i do use an easier way to do my dvds with no encoding at all, its called data, and can burn movies in under 2 minutes each, but you need a dvd player that supports data.
