The movie ends with the main character saying a prediction "Soon I will become the hunted!" She also makes a prediction that "Marcus (the last remaining Elder Vampire) will take the throne and alliance will be made and differences set aside and 2 great covens united."

A note should be made that not only were the only other Elders killed, but also the entire ruling council and senior advisers. Everyone who had previous seniority and authority is dead except for the traitor Kraven and Marcus.

However, a reaming unresolved issue or problem is the last scene is the blood of the dead lycan reaching the mouth of Marcus in his tomb and making him into a hybrid too. How will the remaining vampires react to that? The dead Viktor considered hybrids a taint, pollution or corruption of vampire pure blood that needed to be killed and terminated.

Will Marcus sit uneasy on the throne? Or will the fact that he was once a fully Elder vampire, combined with his new hybrid blood making him even more powerful with more abilities be enough that everyone fears to challenge him?

Also what happens to the werewolves pack? They lost their old respected leader who was trying to become a hybrid himself. He was killed. All his senior lieutenants were lost in the battle. Who will emerge as their new leader? Or will the lycan pack scatter to the 4 winds?

The Underworld book provides interesting details and insights since it is based upon the movie, it fills in the holes of the story but no insight into the future.

It makes sense that Selene the main character be hunted because she not only kill an Elder (who had killed her family) but she also killed 3 vampires Death Dealers who were about to kill and shoot Michael.
It is unlikely that Selene could ever return home to the vampires.

It is likely that Kraven and his supporters would not be accepted back since he betrayed the vampires to their hated enemy and they were responsible for allowing the other Elder and her entire council to be wipe out and killed. The vampires would know he planned to allow all the Elders to be killed and then take the throne himself.

It is unclear how Marcus would view Michael the hybrid. As Marcus is now a hybrid whether he likes it or not (he better get use to it). The new hybrids' bite should create new hybrid, a third race.

I think it is possible that some of the remaining vampires might split off, sneak away from Marcus. He is now something very new and fearfully dangerous and very different than a mere vampire.

The movie doesn't say that vampires will separate themselves from Marcus but it is possible since it makes sense. The book indicates a deep revulsion of anything lycan and anything polluting their pure blood race.

The werewolves were more prepared for hybrids since their leader was planning on become a powerful hybrid by injecting himself with Elder vampire blood (not an ordinary vampire blood either).

I also liked this movie. They are making a sequel. It's called Underworld:Evolution. I think it is scheduled for beginning of 2006. I have always loved movies involving Werewolves and Vampires.

I am glad they are making a sequel to this movie. Crap movies like XXX get a sequel so fast, but movies that are interesting or well made usually do not have one, or if one is made, it is totally different and complete garbage.

We'll have to wait and see what happens with this one. I will not see it in the theaters. The last movie I saw was Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and that was for the free Jedi Luke Figure. After all the crap that gets released, I am afraid to spend money to watch a movie. I usually wait until it is $8.00 or less on DVD and buy a movie.

All I have to say is that my opinion is that Marcus will be an enemy to the Selene and the other Hybrid guy (assuing they even decide to continue the story from where they left off). Also, it seemed that he was rather weak compared to Victor, so Marcus would surely be trouble for them both.

The sequel seems to be more of a prequel to the first movie. I am not sure, but that is how I am interpreting the summary: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401855/plotsummary
