i have Initial D (Live Action Movie) in DivX Avi and i have the subttles for it. i've watched it many times through VLC media player, but now i wanna share it with my friends. i just need real basic help, i would like to know how to either embed the subs into the avi and copy stright to DVD or make a DVD with Sub option. i have DVD-lab PRO but it seems to not like Avi format. i have tried converting it to MPEG but it just F00KS UP!! please help, i need this thanking you in advance Declan Donaghey
For DVD Video you need to convert to MPEG-2 (also MPEG-1, but it isn't as compatible). If you can't convert then you can't create a DVD from it. DVD Lab Pro supports subtitles so if you do manage to convert the video/audio you can author with a seperate subtitle stream.
If you download a program called AVI Recomp then you can hard sub the avi file, then convert that avi to DVD using something like Avi2DVD, DivXtoDVD, WinAvi or even NeroVision Express. Avi Recomp: http://www.divx.howto.pl/avirecomp/eng/
That would mean compressing twice which a) takes more time b) causes a loss in quality if you use a lossy codec (such as XviD or DivX). Much better to convert directly.
@celtic_d Yes it's takes a while (took me 3 hours) to convert it but there was no loss of quality that i can see off and i used the XviD codec, i tested it with a avi and the quality was great. The only problem a had at first was the audio not being in sync so i then used a program called DubIt to add a separate audio file to the video.
heya, i'm back i used that program 'AVI Recomp' it worked but the only problem was the Subs were all off. I checked half way through the film the and the subs were from the end. any more help or advidce please?
After Avi ReComp is done your left with a video file & a sound file did you add the sound to it or was it off with just the vido? Also what kinda subs was it?
the video and audio were all in the avi file, it was only the subs that were all out of sync. i'm using .srt sub files thanks for your help too
I don't know too much about Avi ReComp i tried to find more info but as i soon found out there forums are in Polish The only thing i did different from you is i used .ssa sub files and everything was in sink apart from the audio which i sorted out w/o any probs, try changing the subs to .ssa with Sub Station Alpha. EDIT: Try dvdSanta, it can handle sub files.
XviD is a lossy codec, so there is always quality loss. Whether you can see it or not is a different matter, but it is there.
Well what would you suggest? The last time i said i was using 3vix you said xvid was better. How good is CCE?
Im doing what you said P4_tt. This process with Avi Recomp sure does take awhile.. I have different files to where its saving at. audio, picture, video and all these pass card things. I thought it was just going to be one video file with the subs. What will I do after this?
Well the Picture.avi should be the video file that has been encoded with the subs in it minus the audio, i used a program called DubIT to add the audio but the audio quality is poor. I actually ended up using Avi2DVD to convert the audio to AC3 then added it using Virtual Dub.
Well I dont want my audio to stay poor either. What would I use to make the audio quality better? I'll just use MediaJoin v2.0 and see how that goes.
The audio that AVI ReComp makes should be good anuff. You could always rip the audio from the avi file and compress it using LAME or something then add it to picture.avi. The audio file that i got from AVI ReComp was 48000Hz 32 kb/s total (2 chnls) LAME3.90, i think that's ok.
Alright finally it finished. Is it alright if I just delete the Video file? Seems pretty useless now. and thanks for the help
i've sorted the sync problem out. the subtitles were for a different version of Initial D that i have now got and it's all worked out. it's all good thanks for all the help people
