In the red corner is nero 6.6.0.14 Enterprise edition
In the blue corner is Divx2DVD 1.99.12

    What happens....

Nero is merily recording dvd files from my HD...LAA LA-LA LA!

I open Divx2DVD choose a file (MPEG or Divx) and at this point
everythings cool and slinky But suddenly (pull a in shock look) i
decide to press the `settings` button on Divx2DVD (bottom righthand
    icon)

Nero screams in a Penelope Pitstop type way `Helllp!`

..and grinds to a halt with a illegal disc error.

The reason i think this is, is that Dvix2DVD has a burn engine
and suddenly decides to take control of the drive (add muttly here)

What i thought is when Nero is using a drive it locks everything
else out that wants to use it at the same time, where in this case
Nero seems to give up instantly...and thats from just pressing a
icon on another program but not actually using the burn or decoding
    feature.

If someone else can try this have a go to see what happens....

I assume you are talking about VSO divx to dvd.Just untick the the box and then its burning software will be in active and you will be able to utilise your nero
Revert to the original form of the program to try it and then try it on the updated version

    It`s already unticked.

I had a word with VSO and they said they could not recreate
the problem so end of story with them.

At least i know it happens with `only` me and that i wont touch
the settings icon on DIVX2DVD while burning with Nero.

Possibly a hardware conflict fault but no big deal just wanted to
see if anyone else had this happen.

    - it's early here but i too pulled something similar to a shocked look. Nero's burning away, and you're messing with the computer. Potential conflicts aside, you shouldn't be touching the computer at all during a dvd burn. i religiously leave well alone as i know from experience that it can cause problems to interfere with PC during burns. However only the other week i got lazy and decided to surf on a few web pages while i was waiting for my 4x burns to complete. Watched one of the burns a little later only to find Jackie Chan going slow-motion; while this was funny as the scene was a fast and silly actin scene, it meant i had to check any discs i'd done that night. Luckily there was only one other disc that needed reburning, lo and behold it was the 2 discs that had been done whilst i was messing on the computer. So, 1500 flawless burns/playback (hands off the PC during burns) as opposed to 2 messed up burns with some light reading on the internet - take your pick!

i noticed that with a higher chip set and more ram that the problems go a way.I have tried listening to music /encoding/surfing the net and burning(all at the same time) to find that the computer is only using 70% of resources.

    Awesome isnt it.
