Hi, I am having no luck at all breaking the protection on a new SonyBMG audio cd. I have tried Alcohol120% and a few other programs. ARay Scanner cannot even detect any protection. I can rip the tracks to my hard drive but when I burn them to cdr the audio comes out choppy. Any ideas? Thank You.
Well can you play the files you ripped on your PC? I will assume you can't. I don't know what new encryptions sony has come-up with for their discs... ...But you might want to try using onw or both of these apps: 2) Daemon Tools (You need to make a disc image first) http://www.filepedia.com/cdr_software/cdr_tools/daemon_tools.cfm Use IsoBuster (shareware): http://www.filepedia.com/cdr_software/cdr_tools/isobuster.cfm 1) CloneCD http://www.slysoft.com/en/ In that order (J/K), Ced
Tried both of those apps just now and neither worked. When the SonyBMG cd is inserted into the drive it first opens up its own embedded media player called MediaMax. Once this player opens up then it plays the tracks on the cd. I can't just open it with Windows Media Player instead. There is no option, its either MediaMax or nothing at all. Thanks for the input though.
It won't let you create an image of the entire disc? You arn't suppose to let the software load-up onto your PC. Did you follow the steps in this thread? How to make fair-use-copys of your protected CDs: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/70597
have fun sony bmg cd's have a internet tracker if you try to rip them to another cd the cd is told online to convert the cd choppy at lower quality settings then what is needed so have fun i have 3 cd's that where the same way and i was visited by the local police telling me i couldn't copy the music to my ipod so have fun
I found this... after some research, Follow these steps to disable the "Autorun" feature: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article03-018 Follow these steps to disable Sonys CD protection (MediaMax CD3): http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~jhalderm/cd3/
Thanks very much for the info, I'll try that out. I'll have to do this on a pc which has not yet been polluted with the mediamax software. Thank You!
No, actualy this method uses the [bold]MediaMax[/bold] driver. Well, it by passes it. It shows you how to keep it installed but inert. If you do this on a PC without the SbcpHid.sys driver installed make sure you disable the auto-run feature first because MediaMax will install the SbcpHid driver wiether you except the EULA or not. This method is good because future software will see the SbcpHid driver installed and think you are already a victim and won't install it again! The CD I tested was J-Kwon - Hood Hop. After disabling the driver I was able to play the CD with WMP, rip, and even create images which I burned to CD-Rs. Its an excellent guide. Let me know if you have any problems, Ced
Diabolos: Thank You very much for sending the link to those directions. It worked perfectly! Thank You.
