I have been burning dvd's fine for a few months, using dvd shrink and then nero express to burn, but a couple days ago I started getting errors part way through the burning process. I unistalled nero and installed the latest edition, and the same problem, I unistalled nero again and installed cdburnxp, and the same problems. any ideas? The media I am using isn't great, but I burned about 70 of the same type before the problems began.

Sounds like a media problem. Poor media can be hit or miss when burning. Make sure your firmware is up to date and burn at 4x. What media are you using?
If you still have Nero see if there is a log in c:program files>ahead>nero>nero history. txt.
If so post the last log and remember to remove the serail #'s - they begin w/ 1A.

I reinstalled the new version of nero, and tried to burn at 4x and it said the burn was successful, but I can't get the disk to play in any dvd player or my computer. I will post the log, but I am pretty computer iliterate and don't know where to find it. So if you can tell me where to find it I will be happy to post it. Thanks

Have you tried using DVD Decrypter? (Then Shrink)

See the link in my sig.

Go to my computer>c drive. The log will be located here:
    C:program files>ahead>nero>nero history txt.
Just open the text file and copy and paste the last log.
Remember edit out your serial # (don't need someone else using it!).
It will begin w/ 1A and have a bunch of #'s.

Here is one that had errors. I use decrypter if needed and that works fine, the errors only occur when it is burning.

I also just tried to burn a cd, and the drive won't read the cd, it is a burned cd, but I have burned off of burned cds before. I just feel lost right now.

    tripps11,

Steps to change to DMA. These are instructions for Win2k or WinXp, they are very similar.

    1.right click on My Computer
    2.select manage
    3.select Device Manager
4.select the + sign next IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS
5.assuming your DVD/CD's are on Secondary IDE Channel, double click it
    8.select Advanced settings
9.select pull-down menu on Transfer mode
    10.select DMA
    11.click on OK
    12.done

    Best of luck,

    Rich

    Have you tried different media?

@tripps11, Seems like you have had a lot of help and great advice. I would definitley check your media...At the beginning of backing up dvds, I used cheap media and thought everything was fine, but it wasn't and I quickly learned fro the team at AD and now after 1000 backups I use Genuine Taiyo Yudens, Verbatims, Maxell, FuJI's and Sony's all from Japan. I never burn faster than 4x but at times the Sony external DL will allow the Verbs and Sony's to burn at 6x or 8x, so I have burned a few at 6x with not one problem...played flawlessly, but I do not encourage that. Try some new media and see how that works...also if it is +R have Nero, Decrypter Booktype the media to Dvd Rom (allows it to play in a wider range of dvd stand alones).

I have several DVD's on my hard drive (E:\). I bought a DVD-R to transfer them to. I have used DVD shrink, nero, DVD Decrypter, firestorm, and smartripper and for all they say that their is "no disc in drive". I don't know what to do. They work when i put in cd's. Can someone please help me. Thanks

I take it you have attempted several DVD discs, and if so have you attempted to view any of them via Windows Explorer, or My Computer?

    Good luck,
