    Hi all,

I have an freecom classic external dual layer burner (tsstcorp cd/dvdw ts-h552u) that shows empty when I insert blank dual layer disks, but all other media is fine.

    Any ideas?

My system specs are Pentium 4 2GHz, 512 Mb of RAM and the operating system is XP.

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

I would assume you need to install the latest firmware on your drive.

Lot's of older drive do not recognise those new media, unless they have the latest firmware.

What is the exact model of your burner ?
What firmware do you have on there now ?

VSO Inspector v1.1 can provide that to you !

Latest Firmware I found on http://www.samsungodd.com/ for your drive was [bold]US06[/bold].

    hi

yes i would check the firmware updates from the makers website like mentioned, also see if the discs you are useing work with your drive?

use dvd indentifier or dvdinfo pro to tell you the ID codes of the dye types...

as brand names dont mean diddly squat..

First of all, thanks you guys. this thing's been making me scatty all weekend. everyone I asked said firmware, but I couldn't figure out the samsung site at all so vso ionspector was much needed. all these programs will be damn useful to me. I didn't know they existed. but here's the problem -

vso inspector says I am up to date so I ran dvd info and identifier on the dual layer burner with the disc inside and got a big " NO MEDIA INSERTED". arrgh!!

seeing as you two guys are the best help I got anywhere can you take look at this :-

I system restored back to the point where I had updated windows media player ( to version 10 I think ) . Next thing I knew the shortcut on the desktop was dead and media player was gone from the start menu. I tried downloading various versions of it but when I try to install them an error message appears claiming its incompatible with XP. I tried uninstalling the player from control panel but ended up wrecking service pack 2, acessories and games (solitaire, etc.)

I was able to sort out sp2, acessories and games with the installation cd and media player shortcut returned to the start menu and desktop but when I try to open it all that appears is a small error window with no information except
a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it.

    HELP?
