I'm fairly new to movie downloads and figured it out for the most part but have some questions on doing it faster. I've downloaded *.avi files, from peer 2 peer programs, which are movies usually in two parts. I convert them using winAVI video converter to dvd or vob format and then burn them to dvd-rw and they will play on my home dvd player.
    Questions:
Any easy programs to join avi files??
Any FAST program to convert AVi files?? (1 movie takes roughly 2 hours to convert)
Do I need to author it as they say? Just want to join them and find a decent fast converter program.......I am running a 833 with cable modem, but converts slow!!!

    Hi there,

    Give VSO DivxToDVD v1.99 Pre-Release a try.

I will convert your .avi to DVD format, generate a menu entry for each file, add chapters, supports subtitles etc..

It even has a built in burn engine...

If you must join your .avi, VirtualDUB does a good job.
As for encoding speed, it takes the time it needs.

With VSO DivxToDVD on a P4 @ 3.2 Ghz I usually get between x1.2 and x1.5 so it does take about 1 hour (700mb avi) to convert.

Thanks for the reply........So is winavi a good program to use? Is the divx program free? Is virtual dub free? Just wondering is the average tome for converting a movie is 1 hour...(rougly 700mb),,,,and if there are faster programs......downloadin the movies isnt a problem....either is burning..just takes long to convert

    Hi there,

    http://www.virtualdub.com

    Yes VirtualDub is free.

As for WinAvi, I have no idea I have never used it.

I assume *MOST* programs will take pretty much the same time.

Faster is not always better :)

Good Luck in your search !

Yes, WinAVI Video Converter works pretty good! But it is not free. Anyway, I think it worth every penny.

Winavi 7.1 converts avi files into dvd format for me in about 35-40 minutes. As for it not being free well i had version 6.3 for free off the net & downloaded 7.1 & got it for free too cos i already had the older version. I'd post the regristration code but don't think i'm allowed to here.
