this mightve been discussed before, but i couldnt find any info.

    i have a toshiba a45-s250 laptop w/ a Pioneer DVD-RW model# DVR-K12D. i am using nero 6. and imation cd-rs rated up to 52x.

my recorder burns cds up to 16x. for some reason, nero only ever allows me to burn cds at 4x. it lets me choose 16x, but just as it is about to start to write, it drops it down to 4x.

ive tried to apply the dynamic write speed patch, and it still doesnt work.

    any ideas/suggestions?

Make sure your firmware is up to date on your drive. Another possible reason is your drive doesn't like those cd's. I've had Nero fluxuate on cd burn speeds when I was using crappy media. Usually the drive determines the speed based on the media. From what I understand Nero will not overwrite the speed determined by the drive.
I usually use Fuji or Maxell(made in japan) for cd burning - no probs w/ those.
