DVD-ROM drive & SONY CD-RW not working

    Recently, I realized that my disc drives haven't been working. They don't show up through "My computer" anymore:

    And when I try burning CD's/playing DVD's, they don't work.

    ^ Those are the two that aren't working. Notice the yellow circle with the exclamation point.



    I tried donig system restore but got this:

    Then I followed the instructions -- http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060

    It seems like I can't do anything to fix this problem. Can anybody help?

    In your registry editor, don't delete the folder "4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318" instead delete the upper and lower filters. In your picture you posted of registry editor, you can see the upper and lower filters on the right side. So, just delete those and then restart your computer and your drives should reappear under My Computer.
