I just got a new DVD/CD burner to replace an older Sony CD burner I have and decided to go with the inexpensive NED 3540A. The problem is that I just tried burning a CD with it for the first time and ran into errors. While burning an audio CD at 48x, Nero reported a "write error" and terminated the process. I tried again, same problem. Updated the firmware and tried again, same problem. 20 minutes and I've got 3 coasters, 3 more than I've had in the last year using my Sony burner with the exact same media, PC, and burning speed. I dropped the speed down to 40x and it worked fine. Does anyone know why this would happen? I thought that TDK media was pretty good. It's rated for 48x speeds and as I said, my Sony had no problems. This is because it's plugged into a Promise controller card and is on the SCSI bus. Unless I'm mistaken, you can't enable DMA for SCSI devices, that's up to the card. That said, I used my Sony burner with SCSI for quite some time with no problems. Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestions. Already got the newer versions of both Nero and the drive's firmware. The firmware wasn't the problem, I had tried again after that. Not sure if the Nero update will help. As to the media, as I said it's branded as TDK. What media would you suggest in lieu of this? Finally, you suggest burning at 16x, why so slow? I've been going at 40-48x for a while, with the only recent problems the one I've described here. Thanks again.
