before I get started let me just say this has come to a point of sickening me because I care I'm not just talking shit after the dvdd suppor forum was closed this is where I called home so it is just so sad to see it gone to waste
    1. why is it my status changes sometimes every day sometimes every other post
    2. why is it mods are so hard to get a hold of around here save for neph (great work neph) pity where it takes place at.
    3. why is it if I take my anti-ad-ware down to allow more resources available for back-up and come over here afterwards I have to spend an hour "delousing" the bugs that I got from ad "media click what is this?? and why would a forum that makes money off the number of members they have (maybe should pay neph)give said members "viruses"
4.why is it that we have so many newb's walk away from this site cursing it's name. > http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/205783
this guy was trying to apologize for getting slapped down for using caps come-on flip give him a break which brings me to...
    5. why is flip still allowed to stick around when all I have ever heard out of him is how stupid all these ppl are that come here for help?????? I only actually spoke to him once through p.m. and he came down on me like I raped his grandma of something so totally horrendous for one pm from a concerned member he tore into me and laughed at [bold]my apology[/bold] flip when you find this sometimes ppl apologize just to make a suggestion as to how they expect an average human being to act
6.why is it that two well respected members are banned just for referencing more knowledge while in the midst of actually helping here @ ad it is knowledge you are here to spread right? do you actually think members here are not members @ other forum's the best members here are!
    7. while other newbs to the field are acquiring addict status by-passing those of us that cared about the help of others just by sitting in one forum or another talking about where the best porn is at btw thnx again neph! I think almost everybody said this was not a good idea!I've not seen a discovery of any significance in a while in fact I have passed on helping due to the amount of bs and rumors flying through a thread!

these things have made a joke of the forum in the eye's of many respected members of the community that you owe so much!
that is why save creaky, rotary, soph, bro&arnie bear, maybe a hand few more are the only one's actually helping other than newbie's that suggest using there favorite software instead of actually helping the actual problem @ hand where is bbmayo where is scuba pete
there guides are widely taked about but they are not willing to even come here to help any more!
this place is crumbling before you eye's

    Sad but true - l8nights.....

Whilst not a prolific poster here, I preferred to learn via reading the amount of adaware that this site now deposits on a PC is quite something and not what I expect from a forum such as this.

I think you have covered off the general feeling about certain mods here - I have never seen such power crazed mods before and its being noticed far outside these threads....

    Regards

Still wonder why everyone is posting that the commercial software A*y**D is so wonderful... when there are freeware programs that can do the same thing...

Sorry I just don't get it...

What, this is a treat, for once some ones not banging neph.Well since your not going to reply to this let me educate every one else.

People like flip and neph and darth etc are here to make sure the board runs smoothly and that life is enjoyable as can be.Us normal folk dont see how hard they work at the keyboard behind the scenes, and they do an awesome job.If you had to deal with 100 morons in a hit wouldnt you feel annoyed .

Well the bottom line is we need to appreciate the mods a bit more.

Give respect where respect is due......they deserve it dont they....

and finally well i hate do disagree but its just getting bigger.

I still think that if they want to have a discussion with a certain member - do that thru the PM function. Not in a thread thru hijacking...

I do miss Scuba Pete... a really devoted member of this forum.

Im afraid respect has to be earned, it is not freely given due to the position someone holds. Nobody disputes how hard some of the mods work, it is the manner in which some people carry themselves which is the problem.

And to roll out an old cliche, size isn't everything. This is probably my last post here as I doubt I will return again as I have become sadly dissilusioned with the forums here.

Everyone appreciates the efforts of Mods who have a thankless task yet manage to keep forums running on an even keel through fairness to all and by applying the rules to all users.

The problem here appears to be that this is not whats been happening, there are plenty of examples of links to other forums in posts here yet jmet seems to have been the scapegoat. UncasMS then seems to have been punished for questioning a Mod, in my experience Mods are more than happy to explain their actions and by applying the rules in my first paragraph above have no problem with this as their decisions are always equitable. A worrying trend here is to close any thread that is deemed critical of a mod.

Jack hit the nail on the head - being a Mod doesn't automatically gain you respect, that is already achieved by the actions of the member during their time in the forum.

fao l8nights - thanks for the kind words re myself. i try and help as much as i can as i'm here for hours most nights. That however means i get to see trouble forming quicker than most.

fao other posters - Whilst i don't frequent DD forums more than the occasional wander-in from a google search, i do recognise some of the names at DD. i and most if not all ppl here have no problem at all with forum crossover, i myself am Mod at a.n.other (albeit much smaller) site, but what has really annoyed me lately is the way certain ppl from DD have behaved here, in public forums. i'm not being personal or taking sides, in fact, i've seen all sides of it as i bounce around AD's forums like a demented ferret so i don't miss much that goes on. I have been appalled at the way certain Mods from DD have behaved here, over virtually nothing at all. When a certain member started brawling in public threads and then more DD members joined the fray, [bold]that's[/bold] what's embarrassing - the proof is still in the threads for all to see.

AD's Mods have explained in threads numerous times why banning's happened, again the proof is there to see. I post to a few forums out there, not just at AD, though admittedly most posting/time is done/spent here at AD, however i try to stick to the rules of whichever forum/site i'm on at all times, and thus far have only been slapped down once or twice (so far). I participate in forums where this kind of thing doesn't happen, period. that's because it doesn't happen at source, ie the members of the forums don't misbehave in the first place, thus not needing a slap.

I am not here making this reply to defend anyone/or to side against anyone. But after seeing all sides of these spats i felt the need to say something.

lastly, to quote ifcrule (not intentional at all, i'm uncomfortable sat on the floor of my boat and need to move as i've got pins and needles in my leg, and the quote i've picked is at the end of the thread) -
    - that's my beef with these spats - experienced and no doubt respected ppl from a.n.other forum have been brawling in these public forums.

    i8nights,

Although i am a new member here (since august '05) i have come to gain respect for many other posters who either helped me when i was a newbie and still help today and i have gained respect for the mods who ban those members who are here simply for the title of "member" etc and dont help out.
As for jmet, if he had listened to the mods when they pm'd him hed still be here, contributing like he did.

Without getting too deep into this debate, here are few points that people should realize:

-first and foremost, our moderators are humans (well, we have some doubts about Neph, but..). They get tired, sometimes they have bad days, sometimes when you've read through 1,500+ posts during that day that have threatened to kill you, your dog, your mom and pee in your fish bowl, it sometimes gets slightly frustrating and thus, people might end up banned during that day slightly easier than usual.

-We have almost half a million registered users. Yes. No 100k or 10k or even 200k, but 0.5M. Handling that amount of people, each with their own ideas of what is accepted and what is not in discussion forums, requires enormous dedication. And if you look at the size of our active mod team, you can see that the guys are doing absolutely fantastic job. How often you see spam on our forums (apart from the recent private message spam attack, which mods can't handle and which we, admins, are working to take care of)

-Forums get 50,000+ messages each and every month. That's more than one message per each and every minute. Handling that amount of posts requires.. Well, very small amounts of sleep :)

-We, as in admins, the guys who own this site, but don't handle the moderation of the forums, put all of our faith to our mods, but do realize that sometimes they do make mistakes, they sometimes do go overboard and when such situations are told to us, explained well and with good examples and nice language (send a support email to us using all caps and couple of swear words and your email is destined to /dev/null), we do take action. This means that we "resurrect" people's banned accounts, discuss with mods, etc. But this is rare, our mods quite rarely do bad judgements -- but it happens.

-We, admins, don't have resources or time to monitor forums, not even on daily or weekly basis. Thus, your point of contact has to be one of the mods unless something unjust, e3tc has happened. In such case, contact us via support email and you'll get answered -- but our support has ~1500 emails in queue, so it will take time.

    ..

Now, one thing that some people fail to understand is that our forum is not the only forum on Earth. If you don't want to obey our rules, don't like our attitude or our site's colors or whatever -- go elsewhere. Seriously. Why in the heck people who don't like our site come back? There are at least 100 other video discussion forums to join. There's bound to be one suited for everyone.

    ..

And last, I know the owner of Digital-Digest relatively well and have enormous level of respect to him and I will never, ever want to see idiotic fights about "our forum vs your forum". We do allow people to link to answers on other sites if there's a ready answer available -- that's how Net works. But its silly to expect that we would tolerate "user hijacking", where some individuals decide that they want people from our forum to join theirs, no matter what cost. And it sounds even sillier when in context with Digital-Digest -- I am fully confident that if even suggested as an idea to DVDGuy who owns the site, he'd laugh his ass off that he'd encourage or even hint people to go and promote his site via unethical methods.

    Ugh.

    thats my 2 cents....

@ dRD - First off, I want to thank you for actually commenting on this thread. (I was beginning to think the "Mods" are the ones who actually read and run the entire website.) With that being said, yes I do understand the load a "Moderator" takes on ,each and every day. As I am a Super Moderator at the Digital Digest Forum. I too get tired and have bad days. That is human and to be expected. It takes a man (or woman) to be a moderator but, it takes a even bigger man (or woman) to humble himself (or herself) to admit he was wrong and made the wrong decision cause he might have had a rough day or was in a bad mood (or whatever the circumstances may be).

I honestly think I got "Stereotyped" at first by several people, including "Members", "Senior Members", "AfterDawn Addicts" and "Moderators". Reason I say that is cause, first they look at my title without thinking I might know what I was talking about. Second, cause I received several PM's from "Newbies" all the way up to "AfterDawn Addicts" informing me they had no idea I was the same person as the moderator at the DD forums. They also welcomed me with open arms. Thirdly, cause I did just give them a few quick words then a link. It was not this link I can tell you that real quick: http://forum.digital-digest.com/register.php?

If you can find a thread where I did give that link, I will humbly apologize to everyone and I will go.

Not once did I say come to "my" forum (dd forum) and I'll show you how to do it there. I bent over backwards to help them here! How many of the threads I replied to did the member come back and say "Thanks for the link, I am now registered there"? I distinctly remember putting on several threads if they have any problems, for them to come back and I or someone else would help them more.

Honestly, what does that PM by flip218 insinuate? The words "our members here" clearly implies that I was trying to recruit/steal members.

I couldn't agree with you more. They (with the exclusion of flip) are indeed doing a superb job. (Yes, I also understand the "Mods" have to stick together, which some of them did and stood by flip with their sarcastic comments)

You are extremely right and I couldn't agree with you more. It is very hard, I know. Specially when you are already taken on so much such as in my case, "College" , "Work" , "Wife" , "Kids" and "Your own personal problems".

Yes, it has happened. Twice already. I even have one of your "Admin's" stating he overreacted. The same "Admin" that "flip" keeps saying was on his side. If that is true, looks to me that that Admin is standing on both sides of the fence. Below is the reply I got from the feedback I sent from the first banning from a admin. (Keep in mind this is the same admin that flip repeatedly says is on his side and agrees with him)

Which I did remove/edit my sig, yet was still harassed by flip. If I could get in to my jmet account, I would copy and paste some of the PM's. Yes,I will admit, when I first got flip's PM, I kinda chuckled at it and told him to pass my sig along to a admin by all means. Reason for that is, his title (moderator) did/does not show in a PM. So I had no idea he was a moderator. In fact, if I did I would have graciously removed my sig that very moment. (May I suggest you "implement that feature"!)

I know first hand, as I had to wait quite awhile before my first email/feedback was responded to.

That was never even a factor! I knew it was "yalls way or the highway". But when I get single handedly reprimanded (even banned) for posting links yet, I see other "regular" members do the same thing, without getting banned or so much warned. I know they are not getting warned because I have seen the same people do it several times (yes even "AfterDawn Addicts").

Well, you have seen a "idiotic fight" about "our forum vs your forum" first hand started by one of your mods (flip) in which I even gave you visual proof that he said it.

You can see first hand, that was not my intention here and I wanted everyone to know about it: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/228053

Let me just state, as a long time mod here, i have never once denied someone an explination for my actions. I have rarely ever been asked, most likely due to the fact that when i ban someone, it's obvious why it happened. I have a very low tolerance for spammers, abusive people, and general idiots that shouldn't be at a keyboard anyway (and i mean the way they act, not their level of knowledge). Yes it is hard to maintain composure at the end of the day when you've just been sifting thru 1000 threads or cleaning up 100 "free ipod" posts, but we do the best we can. at any time i welcome anyone who wants to PM me and ask a question about something i have done, most of the long time members are already aware of that. There are times when mods get a bit power hungry, hey we're human, it happens and will continue to happen. we have a forum of our own where we can discuss such matters with each other, most of us use it and it helps. there have been many times i have questioned my own actions and call upon the other mods and/or admins for advice, and it helps. I dont care what site you come from as long as you dont break the rules we have in place here. In fact i think it's great to have people from other sites contributing to our knowledge here. knowledge is power, share the power, just dont be a dick about it. The simple fact is, as dRD stated, if you dont like it here you are free to leave at any time and not come back. I hate to see anyone go, but if you're not happy with what we have to offer then move on to a better place. we'll still be here doing what we do.
If anyone feels i overstepped my bounds with any thing i've ever done, please by all means bring it to my attention and we'll discuss it like adults. If i get a PM saying "hey you're an bumhole you banned my friend" you'll most likely get banned yourself because it's obvious you cant follow that "adult discussion" thing i mentioned and we dont need that type here at all.
the bottom line is we do this for free, and have to listen to our wives bitch at us because we spend more time babysitting 1/2 million users than we do our own kids, and we dont get paid a cent. at best we get an aD t-shirt. which reminds me, i should make a shirt that says "i babysit for a half million crybabies and all i got was this lousy t-shirt" (kidding boss).
again i say to everyone, i welcome any comments on any of my actions. but please be warned, you'll get an honest answer. oh and let the record show, not all mods stick together just because we are mods. If a mod gets out of line, or starts abusing their power, i am one of the first to come down on them. 99.99% of the time we only stick together because we are justified in our actions and it's usually a little crybaby that is doing the arguing in the first place. usually people that cross the line never say a word because they know they screwed up, but unfortunately that is not always the case.

i am wondering after all, why i get banned twice but still nobdy cares to grant my wish and delete this guide?

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/226877

i have used the feedabck function as well as PM and i dont see that anything has changed since

nobody has gotten back to me - ok, no problem, but please dont tell me it is that much work to press the delete button

being s-mod @ ddigest for many years i have a slightly different view of how to behave as a mod and how not to

what i cannot stand is finding threads shut down and myself banned without even half a decent or intelligent word - which flip obviously lacks

so folks, do me the favour and DELETE that guide of mine

being banned twice for nothing i do not accept my guide being part of this forum when i tried to help as much as i could

this is not my idea of a community and i bet i have way more experience with helping other people in forums like this than flip has

wow that l8nights guy is very educated!!lol
now please read in entirety as it seems this is to be [bold]my "swan song"[/bold] first of all I am not bitter and would not have signed back -up but I was pleasantly surprised that the "boss" steped down from his throne and actually gave some validitity to my concerns!(thnx)even though it is easier to just trust those we depend on to "tend our gardens" it is alway's best to pant the seeds yourself!

first let me say that I feel my banning was unjust and uncalled for I happened upon a thread where two of my friends were being degraded as they have reputations of their own to attend to I will just say how many e-mail accounts do you guy's have!

it is good to see you creaky you have probably been the most helpful member I have had the opportunity to get to know thank you for all your assistance and the knowledge you have passed on!
I am not angered by flip's decision however immature I believe it to be I initially started this thread w/ at least some intention of baiting him into debate but upon further consideration I think him to be a pitiful case. I have heard good things from some of the elder members but it seems it has become a faded memory of a time that has come to pass? all the love it or leave it comments may be better voiced in convincing this man to tke a vacation!
like golum I kinda pity him as he seems wasted on this forum or the modding of. I would ask of him just this one thing to reconsider "patrolling" the forum looking to slap someone down or bann someone just to ignite the long burned out spark!

DRD I do not consider myself one who has the ability to do this job of mod/admin ( I don't know how you find the time)but just consider undoing the damage done by changes to the status practices I think somethings are just better done by hand! maybe the addition of higher levels such as maybe guru or living legend!
remember only the open mind has the ability to learn and grow!
it sounds as if you are bragging about! the sheer number (.5mil)of members amassed here this is the very thing I think to be the undoing of this forum! I just wish measures were made to be better able to handle these growth's

I wish to thank all of those who shared untold volumes of knowledge w/me and @ andmere you are one of those mentioned that have the one-liner try any dvd type posters try this get to a problem first follow the actual problem through to a satisfactory end and quit encouraging the downward spiral that has become the sort of infectuous disease that plagues these forum's just be your self and be true! you might make some real friends I'm not but using you as an illustration for a point but don't think the advice any less potent!
I will se you all around

    peace love and knowledge!!

trust me buddy, you aren't the only one against the auto promote thingy. we have had countless discussions on this amongst the mods and admins and like it or not, we are at their mercy on this one. there has been talk of creating a new status, one that allows the "real" addicts and senior to get the props they deserve and not promoted due to shear post count. I have never agreed with the auto promote thing, but it's not my decision to make and since my role here is simply to enforce the rules, i dont pay any attention to a person's status anymore. I used to really count on our seniors and when i saw someone hassling them on a thread i would usually step in. Since any post happy idiot can be a senior pretty quick i rarely even give it a second look now. we have already had the issues come up where senior members had to be banned (mainly because they were senior assholes that achieved that status simply by making tons of useless one liner posts).
You seem to have your head on straight so i'm asking you to reconsider leaving. let the past rot and move forward, and maybe help educate some of the trash around here on how a forum member should act. I think the only tool we truly have left is the example we set for others.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN, I'M REAlly getting quite annoyed with all you morons that dont have the politeness i show you all .My names ANDMERR, not andmere ,not what ever you guys decide to add to it or anything else.If you cant show some curtsy bugger off l8ter

As to your crappy post on whether i have real friends or not.Simply what the f**k does it matter to you, stop jerking around and get to the point. When i answer a post i'm trying to help out.Its not my fault that it might take me a couple of days later to attempt another reply .Some of us have to work you know and when you work 11+ hours a day.So more often or not when i do get back to continue on its more or less answered.

But just to prove you wrong maybe this thread is at its conclusion:with a satisfactory success.

First for everybody: My post wasn't directed to any particular user and/or mod here, I simply wanted to calm down the situation slightly and wanted to point out few things that I personally felt were important regarding the matter on how our forums are moderated, etc.

jmet3: I do agree with you and my friend Ketola that flip went overboard with the judgement and based on the data what I've seen (although, flip & other mods: I'm not stating that I've seen all the messages and haven't bothered to gather PM data, I simply want everybody to calm down again and get over this type of silly arguments. And as Ketola stated, we're happy to reinstate your account and hope that you and flip would have a calmed, civil discussion via PMs to sort the differences, if there are any left :) And sure, we, and I personally, always appreciate if people from other "competing" forums bother visiting our little site and contribute their knowledge to our forums as well. So, from my part, you're more than welcome to become a regular visitor here as well, even tho things are done slightly differently here than in various other forums -- most notable difference is probably the constant absense of site admins from forums, we visit our forums much more rarely than d9, Baldrick or DVDGuy do.

l8ter: My message wasn't aimed to you or even commenting your particular situation. I simply wanted to state this: our mods are humans, they sometimes get angry, they do unjust decisions and sometimes yell to people, just like all humans do. But if that results in unjust situation for any of the members, contact us, wait patiently for us to handle the situation and it will get sorted, one way or another. (typically two options: we read through your posts and decide that mod was right and leave you banned or read through your posts and decide that the banning decision was unjust and reinstate your account and let mod know why it was done). This applies to everybody, but since this involved this time a moderator from another forum, a forum ran by a person (and sure, a competitor, but DVD ripping niche has been for 6 years one of the few niches on Net where there haven't been any stupid name-calling or "wars" but instead a peace and harmony), I wanted personally clear this situation.

UncasMS: We still do have the 1500+ emails in our queue, its more than likely that we havent simply reached to your email yet. And I personally ignore most of the PM notifications nowadays, simply due the sheer volume of the messages -- annoying, yes, I agree. So, what I do suggest is that you sit back and wait for couple of more days and let our support handle the situation. What I'd suggest personally is that our support will look into your case and see whether there's an unjust decision made by our mods and if so, reinstate your account and will chat with our mod team about it. In that is the case, I'd welcome you to continue using our forums and helping other users -- I always hate to see when people who contribute actual knowledge to the site, leave.

I hope that once the dust settles, everybody will see this as one of the minor bumps on the road and everybody will get over it and continue our ultimate mission -- a mission where aD, DDigest, d9 and videohelp all have played a big role -- to educate our users and, of course, to make movie studios to lose sleep ;-)
