    I'm brand new to burning so any help would be greatly appreciated. I recently purchased an NEC ND-3540d. I've ripped only a couple of dvds (with DVD Decrypter), and burned with DVD Shrink (using Nero) and have had successful results. However, when trying to rip a certain movie, the dvd stops reading after a certain point. It's not a new release, and it is from a local establishment. It always stops at the same point on the same file...roughly around 800 meg. I've tried DVD Decrypter, DVDfab Decrypter, and DVD Shrink, and they all end up the same. Atleast DVD Shrink gave me some type of read i/o device error. The DVD does have a ton of scratches on it. Would it be that or possible the burner?

    Help.

    fish71,
    Sounds like the scratches are causing you problems. Try cleaning it real well and then use DVDDecrypter. If the errors come up again then it is the scratches and you will need to return it and get a better copy

    Did you try to rip it with DVD decrypter in ISO/read mode? Try that and see if it will rip into an ISO then load the ISO in the program your using to recode too.

    @fish71:

    Did you follow Car.Mike and larrylje's advise?

    Were you able to get a succesful burn?

    If not, return the disk and ask for a replacement.

    Good Luck!
