I thought I would post this in case any one has issues burning to certain media. For the longest time I couldn't burn dash media using Nero & my Lite-on burner, model SOHW 1633s, firmware BSOS.The drive is under a yr. old. I decided to use a patched firmware using omnipatcher to see if that would correct the problem. ( it didn't) the upgrade went well & my drive was upgraded to 1635. I should have stopped right there but I decided to use a patched firmware on my DVD ROM model SOHW 167T also under a yr. old. I ended up trashing both drives & had to replace both. The newer drives are NEC 3540a & the DVD ROM is another Lite-on SOHD 16P9S. The NEC burner burns all media which I'm happy about. The moral of the story is BE CAREFUL of patched firmware & make absolutely sure that you know what you are doing because it can cost you. I bought the new drives at Newegg which is an awesome store! The burner was $39.99 & the DVD Rom was $19.99 with free shipping which I received within 3 days. Nice price! Thanks to all of you for trying to help. I've learned a lot from this forum. Jenlicris
Flashing Drives with modified firmware is a "At your own risk" choice. Every drive I own has a modified firmware. It is very easy to mis-flash a drive. Research the firmware in forums where people have commented on their successes and failures. I do all my firmware research here first: http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php Some drives can be saved from a mis-flash. So don't throw away the drive untill you are 100% sure it is dead and not salvageable.
