Hi, something weird is happening and I can't figure out what it is. My dvd decrypter has always worked fine, I would put dvds that were 4x 8x and it would write with those specified speeds. Now, for some weird reason it won't go any higher than 1.8x, even though I have it set at a higher speed...I even put 16x discs and it still writes at no higher than 1.8x. I can't figure out what happened and how. I don't mind the slow speed, it might be better quality, but the fact that it won't go any higher is disturbing to me making me think that something is wrong with my burner or something. Is there an expert that might be able to tell what is causing this problem? Thanks,

    grace

    hi

you need to check your DMA settings in device manager it may of reverted to PIO mode instaed of DMA 2/3/4/5 etc

    found in control panel

uninstall the drives [and controller!] then reboot your pc, uninstall from device manager by right clicking on link there like in picture...

I did uninstall the driver and everything is in the dma mode but it still will not write any faster than 1.8x. Anyone else have any suggestions?

    hi

yes bit odd? couple things i know is 1.8 sounds very much like riplock (when ripping protection out) drives do this, except lite-ons but you say its burning so not sure?

also the speed is read from the disc! have you a new batch? or a brnad not used before?

what is the id code of the discs?

Hi, no it's not a new batch, I have used so far TDK, and Phillips. There reaally seems to be no problem with the burning and the copies made seem to be fine. So, I'm really not sure. I also have a couple of other burners in my computer, Nero and Roxio. I noticed on those that the speed of reading is also slow. Do you think that those other two might be conflicting with one another?

Really! I had no idea. Ok, so I really will uninstall Nero ASAP (I never use it anyway). I will keep Roxio because I use it to make music cds. Thanks...I will let you know if it fixed the problem.

I already went to control panel and uninstalled Nero, was I supposed to do it differently? I hope not. I never liked Nero, everytime I closed it I used to get an error message.
