sony vaio dvd burner

Hi, my dvd burner (Sony Vaio A417S)works fine on branded dvds but wont work with some unbranded. However these will burn and play on my mates Toshiba. Any idea why the Sony wont play ball and what I can do?

hi morpeth i myself have a very expensive vaio laptop and that will only burn on sony dvd-r,if i use verb.8x they are only recognised as 2x in my burner i just think they are very fussy burners,just my opinion?
