Having just purchased a Toshiba RD-XS34SC HDD/DVD vido recorder, and being a bit of a Luddite or at least compute illiterate, I was terribly impressed wiht myself for having set the thing up correctly and that it taped two shows last evening. Alss, somewhere along the line I must have pushed something I should not have pushed as I have no sound at all when on the Toshiba, neither on the HDD playback (picture is great!) no watching TV through it. HELP! What can I reset. (My suspision is that i goofed in TV Guide last evening.)
Were you lacking sound to begin with? Or did you have sound at one point but not now? (I can't tell from what you're saying). If you haven't gotten any sound from the beginning, my guess would be that you goofed when attaching the audio connections. Have you taken a close look at them, making sure they are plugged into the correct inputs? Sometimes these things can be a bit confusing.
Thanks for the swift reply, and my apologies for being so unclear. I had sound but lost it while in TV Guide. As Lloyd Bochner said to Rod Taylor in the old 1960 TV show "Hong Kong": "I don;t mind being stupid. I just don't like finding out about it!"
To complete the story: a friend who works in computers came over and found that I had everything hooked up correctly. He decided that, since in his experience using the component video inputs seldom works, he would move the cables to the AV1 input to the TV. And everything works now, including the sound. Odd but my big mistake seems to have been following the instructions. No, i do not understand it at all!
