If you want to get rid of Nero Scout after installing Nero 7:

Paste the following into the Run dialog box:

    regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll"

Explore 'My Computer' and Scout has gone.

Woot. Gotta love it when someone already has the solution before you think you have a problem. Thanks. :)

lol - though the nero scout has actually been a major pain with 'nero7' users on this forum, as earlier posts indicates.

Just wanted to add my thanks for the removal tip!

Can't believe they didn't put an interface in for this.

Well thats fine with me. But what if I wish to do the opposite, ie, want to put an item (eg. My Network places) on to the my computer just like Nero Scout ? What then ? Can any one tell me how to ? Please...
I know this is possibe in Win98 thru just enabling an option in Explorer->tools->Options, but there is nothing of that sort in Win XP although I found an option to put Control Panel in My Computer.

The newest version (7.2.0.3) is even worse. Is there a way to get this Nero Scout off the taskbar? What a pain.

To remove the Nero Scout Desktop Search from the taskbar, right click it on the taskbar and select options. You must check the box that says enable Nero Scout, then it will let you uncheck the two boxes below (enable on the taskbar and enable in explorer, I believe----I got rid of it so quick I didn't pay too close attention). Then uncheck the enable Scout box and close the dialog.

No problem! Took me a bit of fiddling around at first too. I'm at least glad the solution is easy.

I was leery about enabling it and then being unable to disable it. (Enough "ables"? I guess it must be pretty important to the Nero people to include that junk. How many different organizers and indexers can we stand?!!
    Again, thanks.

Nero Desktop Search (Nero Scout) is AMAZINGLY STUPID.

If I ever am made the Chairman of the Board of the Nero company, you will hear about it, because I will call the president at home and tell him he's fired. Then I will contact the technical media and apologize to the customers.

I'm just shocked at how stupid software companies can be. Nero is CD Burner software! Why would they take up a large part of your taskbar with a stupidly implemented search???? Why would they FORCE you to have it? There is no option not to install it.

    Shockingly stupid.

Thanks very much for the information. It's necessary to enable it to disable it? Shockingly stupid again.

    Hi guys (and gals)

Just re-installed Nero 7.2, went through the custom install options to get rid of the crap programmes I do not want. In one of the last screens is a tick box to configure "Scout" I did not select this box and hey presto no bl**dy "Scout".

Before doing the re-install I went through and removed all the crap that gets left behind.

Hope this is of some use to you all.

What crap is that? I have had nothing but headache from the beginning of Nero 7. Nero 6 is one of the very few versions that I will NOT update my version to the latest. Nero 6 will stay with me, til I read different and no one has not proven me wrong --- YET.
