Allright, here's a really newb question: Why do some movies need 7 or 8 GB of space (and therefore dual layer DVD's) and others only need 4.7 GB? Is it because of the extra features? (Deleted scenes, subtitles, games etc). If so, how can I delete them and keep only the actual movie so that it fits to single layer discs? (Note that I am not talking about dvd shrinking, which reduces the quality of the movie)
hi if your not talking about shrinking then you wont be burning any films! unless you mean delete extras like you say takes up space, then burn main movie to a dual layer disc? but theres no piont as it will all fit anyways...
@civilman So you dont want to shrink but you want to keep just the moviw... Well when i first started to backup my DVD'S I did the following: 1)Use DVD Decrypter to ripp to my hard drive. 2)Use CloneDVD 2 and clicked on the first option [bold](Copy DVD Titles)[/bold] 3)Then I opend the folder that the movie files just went into and they are basically VOB files and they insert like a list in CloneDVD. 4)You can either chose to keep the menus (Preseve Menu option) or just choose the movie file. Usually the one that goes for over an hour in length. E.g. here is the guide to using CloneDVD 2 http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/full_dvd_to_dvdr_with_clonedvd.cfm U can also download the program from here too http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/clonedvd.cfm Good Luck and Keep me posted... p.s As Rotary said its not worth just putting the movie on it own on the DL disc. Its better if u just copy the movie to a single layer disc..
hi with a main movie these days its still over 4.38gig so you will need to put it on a dual layer... unless you shrink it to fit a dvdr5 size of 4.38gig
@Rotary No disrespect and plz do correct me if i am wrong... But when using CloneDVD it compresses it for you b4 going through the burnning step...
hi there borhan9 hows it going, i am not sure with that app, but the thing with this thread is the guy wants to place a main movie on a dvdr5 size and with most main movies these days you will need to shrink that sucker even though you got rid of extras / commentary... so he doesnt want to shrink the film but still get it on a dvdr5 (which cant be done) civilman my reply to that was... Rotary well not to dvdr5 size (unless an old film thats smaller maybe???) but on that app borhan9 looking at it yes it would have to compress the files to fit a dvdr5 for sure prior to burning...
Thanks for your helpful posts guys. I managed to find a way to delete the extras and author the dvd the way I like (only keep the movie and the subs i want) through DVD Shrink. But, as u said, although i managed to cut 1 or two GB's, the movie is still over the 4.7 limit, so it needs to be shrunk too. The compression is smaller though so the quality is closer to the original dvd.
