I've tried everything to get my network bridge to work. I have my modem going to a router then from there i have an ethernet cord going to my computer. Then i have a cross-over cable going from my computer to my xbox. I've bridged both connections and i still can't connect to xbl. In the trouble shooter it keeps saying it cant find the DNS. I've set the DNS to the on provided by my ISP and it still wont work. I've tried everything and it refuses to work. Can anyone tell me what i've done wrong or what i need to do. Any help at all would be great.
hey Bridging is a bit sketchy as far as connecting Xbox to PC goes, I recommend using Windows ICS (internet connection sharing) so you got the box hooked to the PC with a crossover and the PC connected directly to the cable/dsl modem with RJ45 straight ethernet cable. now you just gotta configure winxp correctly. first make sure both NICs (network interface cards) are enabled in Network Connections. Go to whichever NIC is hooked to the modem, in the properties>advanced tab check "Share this comp's internet connection" under ICS settings, make sure external/internal UDP port 3074 is forwarded (that's xbox live) Then go the properties of the NIC that is hooked to the Xbox. under TCPIP properties, set it to the IP 192.168.0.1 (it's a local IP) and subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Make DNS/IP settings manual but leave everything else blank. Then just make sure in your XBox dash network settings, your box isn't set to spoof a MAC, and there's no need to set a static IP - any settings in your Xbox should be automatic, because WinXP assigns the Xbox an IP via DHCP because its hooked to a NIC that's performing NAT (network address translation) If your Modem does NAT (ie the IP of your NIC hooked to the modem is private/local 10.0.0.x or 192.168.x.x instead of a global IP) then you need to port forward 3074 UDP (and possibly port 88) to the PC's IP. This config will work with Xbox live and it will let you view the xbox packets for whatever reasons...
Alright i did everything you said. I tried this last night before you posted but a little different and it still will not find the DNS. I tried pluging my computer directly to the modem and it will not work. Do you know what the problem could be? In the trouble shooter it says " No DNS Sever addresses were recieved from the DHCP or PPPoE server. Enter the DNS Server(s) provided by your ISP in the Network Settings menu." Is there anyway i could use a network bridge or ICS with my router, because i have more than one computer at my house. I know the ICS probably can not be dont through a router because it uses 192.168.0.1 and thats what the router uses.
