I just built a new system...windows xp and panasonic lf-d311 dvd-ram/r drive. Windows for some reason recognizes the drive, but applications like media player do not. The device manager shows the drive as a Panasonic DVD (as it should). PowerDVD loads up, and it says I have 3 cd-rom devices on my system (I do have 2 scsi cd-roms). So, powerDVD sees it as a cd-rom when starting, but it will play a dvd just fine. Programs like cdvdinfo only show my two scsi devices. I have the latest firmware for the drive. On a good note, I was able to rip and burn a dvd. And it plays fine in my dvd-drive and standalone player. Since this is a hardware/software issue possibly, I thought to post it in here. I hope that was okay!
