I have a new Mac Powerbook G4 laptop with 1.67 Ghz and 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM. And iMovie.

I've now transferred some of my home video camera footage to iMovie and want to burn it onto DVDs for back up and to free up the computer's memory. Can I play the end result on a DVD player ?

I have a pack of 10 DVD-R Imation disks which hold 4.7 GB each. When I go to "get info" on each separate video project, most are well over this amount.
Example: A sequence of 34' 51" duration is 11.67 GB and another sequence of 34' 34" duration is 9.31 GB.

Does this mean I have to break up the sequence and burn each project onto two or three discs ? On the Imation pack it says "2 hours at SP or 4 hours at EP"

Do I need to compress the movie somehow so it fits on the DVD. If a two hour feature can fit onto one DVD, why can't my 35 minute video ?

I managed to burn a shorter video as a test but there was no sound - only distorted buzzes. Any clues here ?

I'd appreciate any help you can offer - PLEASE with a minimum of tech terms. Why can't I manage this simple task ?

    Many thanks in advance

its so big because you probably have your quality settings so high.. you need to bring that down.. what you should be able to do is make an image out of it. extract the video_ts folders out of there and then compress with dvd2OneX. popcorn or toast 7
